While recently upgrading the RAM on my Acer Aspire 3050-1150, I noticed another chip in the RAM compartment that looks temptingly upgradable, but I have no idea what it is. This is the first notebook I have had that totally replaces any desktop, so I have never done much upgrading on notebooks. This does look somewhat like a CPU in that it is square, but the resemblance ends there. My guess is that it is a BIOS chip, but why would Acer put such a chip in a location that just screams, "Upgrade me!" lol

    Any help out there?

It's most likely your mini pcie card, which holds your wireless card. Cant be sure unless you take a pic.
