    Hi

i've got an Acer Aspire 3613WLMi and the screen is faulty.

when i switch the laptop on the screen comes on full white and then fades slowly to the bios screen (no hdd installed right now). I put a windows vista installation cd in to test it further and it faded slowly to the installation screen, everything moved in slow motion, the mouse cursor moved across the screen really slowly and leaves a trail. I've replaced the ribbon cable and that hasn't fixed it, it's not a motherboard fault that i know of because i've plugged an external monitor in and that worked so i've narrowed it down to either being a fault with the lcd or with the inverter.

i'll try to get a video of what i'm trying the explain, it's difficult, the screen sort of fades into view in blotches and patches all over.

    any help?

    here's a video of the fault: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8QqJ-21yCJc

haha yeh if it was supposed to do that it'd look good

i'm gonna try replacing the inverter next, hopefully that'll fix it, i was just hoping someone on here could tell me for definite, i hope i don't have to replace the lcd, they're about £80 and i could get a second hand laptop for that.

    Hahaha....Thats creepy man. :D

I dunno what it is the cause of it, but an inverter should be cheap to replace.

You can request or report [IMG] to a Mod, to have it moved to the H/W section. You might get an answer there. :)

looks to me like like the screen has been stepped on or the screen has been bent when closing or opening.

the larger screen laptops seem to suffer from a new problem.
the screens are made thinner and thinner for a better looking and a more streamlined looking laptop.
this hs started a new problem, the case flexes/bends if you don't close/open the screen using both corners.
also it the hinges or one of the hinges is a bit stiff this can also be a problem.

my nephew stepped on to my laptop and i had the " Phantom Screen"
    spooky.
so i just opened the screen and just reset all the connections and did a overhaul.all is well now :D

    Just a thought
    Phil :D

thanks for your advice, what do you mean by "reset all the connections"?

I've opened up the screen and replaced the ribbon cable. I've removed the hinges because they were very stiff i'm waiting on new ones to be delivered, nothing's changed though

following on from this i emailed acer support and asked them to look at the video.
the first response i got was "do a system recovery, it may be software related" which i knew to be impossible because the fault was evident when there was no hard drive installed, therefore no software!

i replied telling them exactly that and the response i got was very detailed...

    "it looks like a fault."

hahahaha then he asked if i wanted to book it in for a repair, to which i replied "give me a quote and then i'll tell you"

big help they were, i was hoping someone there would give a simple "x needs replacing, we'll repair it for £x"

    nevermind.

The most logical are to get information about the nearest possible,
ACER service places , and call its one .

I'm sat here wondering how the thing that controls the brightness of the backlight could cause blotches, mouse trails and fading of the LCD...

It's new screen time. Or s/h screen time, though with new ones available for around £80 and s/h ones going for £50 or more you'll have to be very patient to get a used one cheap enough to make it worthwhile.
