Hi,
I'm trying to help my sister out. She bought this laptop about 18 months ago. Since then it had become really slow, almost unworkeable. Now, it won't even startup. The Welcome message appears and then just a blank blue screen. I basically need to do a full re-install back to factory settings.
Anyway, I phoned Acer support, and they asked if I had made the recovery CD's that you are asked to make when you 1st turn on the laptop. I checked with my sister, and she didn't have blank cd's at the time, and later forgot! They then advised me to hold down 'Alt' and keep pressing 'F10' when the Acer splash screen appears, to access the hidden partition where a full copy of Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005 has been saved, and to to re-install Windows from there. I tried this, but nothing happens, just high pitch bleeps. I cannot access this hidden partition.
I phoned back and explained that no CD's were included when I bought the laptop, that I hadn't made any recovery CD's and that I couldn't access the hidden partition and asked if they could send copies of the cd's to me to re-install on the laptop. They can, but for around £60!or they advised me to buy another copy of windows!

I have already paid for a copy, and have the unique Windows Registration Key glued on the bottom of the laptop. This key is not in use on any PC at the moment!
I can download all of the drivers etc for free from the Acer website, the only thing that I need is a copy of the Windows XP Media Edition CD's. I enquired about this, and they said that this is totally legal as you pay for registration, and not for the software. I have paid for registration, and will obviously only use this key on this one laptoop (well it's impossible to use on more than one laptop anyway!)
Can anyone please help?
