I'm trying to uninstall the driver (Synaptics) for the mouse on my Aspire 3680 Windows XP Professional. Everytime I uninstall the driver I'm asked to restart the computer and when I do windows xp claims that it finds new hardware (mouse) and it needs to restart to install the driver. The problem is that when it restarts the driver that was giving me problems is the one that it installs. I need help to stop win xp from automatically installing drivers.
PS: The problem with the driver is that it locks up the mouse sometimes and makes it so that I can't drag folders with the left click/touchpad combo.

you should be able to download the latest synaptics driver and just over install the old one.
However, i've not seen this on machine before and i think its therefore more likely to be a hardware fault than anything else. -
I already tried reinstalling the driver and I guess it must be some setting in the driver because the mouse continued to malfunction. Also it can not be a hardware malfunction because when I uninstalled the synaptics driver it started to work perfectly. That is when windows told me to restart so that it could reinstall the driver.

I had the same issue with my 5102 that you described a few weeks back but in my case when I uninstalled the synaptics driver, windows never tried to reinstall it.

Outside of a full file repair from the windows xp disk, can I somehow disable windows from automatically installing drivers for new hardware. Also when I start up the installation disk would I use boot from cd so that it repairs an existing windows installation?

Help Please, How do I turn of the function that makes it so that XP automatically reinstalls drivers?
