Hello everyone,
First I'd like to give my hats off to this cool forum, there's so much information on here!
I recently traded my old gaming desktop for my friend's Aspire 3680. After reading here about upgrading the CPU, I decided to take the plunge and buy a Core 2 Duo T5600 on eBay. At the same time, I also purchased a new power board because the DC jack was broken (my friend had created a make-shift solution by soldering some wires sticking out of it).
After installing the CPU and power board, I booted up. Everything started off smoothly, the BIOS detects the new CPU, I get into Windows, but I noticed that there was no battery charging light... a few minutes later the computer shut down because the battery was almost dead. So it turns out the power board installation didn't work![]()
I opened up the laptop again, reseated the power board, but the machine won't turn on. I tried turning it on with and without the battery inserted. I then attempted to put the old power board back in, but I couldn't get the angle of the wire right to make a connection (it's flimsy), and then the blasted wire broke. I'm thinking at this point the new power board is simply defective, but how can I tell? I don't want to go to a repair shop and pay $35 to find out it's defective when it's cheaper to do an RMA with the eBay seller.
I read on a thread that dull grey means a bad soldering job, and I do see dull grey in places around the jack...
Thanks in advance![]()
