I'm trying to help someone with their Aspire 3810TZG,
for some reason half the time when they power it on, the LCD doesn't work until a power cycle is performed (power and battery unplugged and replugged).
I'm pretty sure it's an LCD problem because plugging in an external monitor shows that the laptop booted Windows normally.

Does anyone know why this might be happening?

It sounds like you are right although I can't really understand why would it happen.
