Aspire 3830TG, FD to ROM conversion

Hello!

I was looking to edit my bios to remove ME but me_cleaner's python script only works on ROM or BIN files. IS there a possibility to convert FD bios to ROM?

Made a normal rom, a no-ME version and one with the latest ME available. Your system uses a v7.1 ME and isn't actually vulnerable to the latest debacle, btw. And you didn't mention what model Acer this is for; the patched version assumes an HM65 chipset, which is a fairly common Cougar Point variant.

In fact I wasn't going to completely remove ME but just disable the HAP switch. To think that you put thought in this and tried to remove ME as well is beyond me. THANKS!

Edit: By the way, if it's not a family recipe, is there a possibility for you to tell me the instructions to both unpack the fd to rom then convert back it to fd for flashing so I can post that on me_cleaner page?

 

It's really simple; they're binaries padded with a header, containing meta information. The header tells you the size and offset which you can then use to hex-edit, stripping away the fluff. With Alienwares it's a bit more work, but this one only needed trimming away the first bits until the bios start, yielding a clean 4MB binary (4*1024*1024 = 4,194,304 bytes). Adding the ME is more effort, but there's a few good guides on the win-raid forums for that.

Suppose you could add back the header and try a regular flash with bgtwin or afuwin, of course. However, there's not much need to do that; these plain binaries can be flashed with afudos. Here's the versions with the header appended, in case you really want to flash them from within Windows:

I already disabled the hap switch on the ROM file you provided and flashed it with InsydeFlash without EC block (it failed with it). All went well and I just wanted to learn more More knowledge the better.

It's not an Acer per se, but a subsidiary model, PAckard Bell. I don't even remember what model However I'm told by Nedemai (the person who unlocked 3830/4830 etc bios in this forum) that it's as same as 3830TG. In fact the bios I sent you was a 3830TG bios.
