So this is my mom's laptop, she had it for 4 years.

Sometimes the fan turns off completely then turns back on again.

Also does someone have a repair guide on how to fix a loose alphabet key? The "C" key is loose.

    Windows XP Professional, 32-bit, SP1
    Phoneix BIOS

never upgraded from original spec :/

I'm on the 1.1 Bios and there's an update to 1.5 in the acer website, but I'm afraid of bricking my mom's laptop.

If possible, can you have a custom BIOS that enables performance option (OC)?

    Thanks in advance :)

Is the laptop overheating or is the fan just annoying your mother by switching on/off constantly?

In terms of cooling a good cleaning and a new thermal paste would do you a world of good especially after 4 years of service.

Thank u, i'll get on that.

I ran hwinfo32 and the temps never reached above 72 (P95), or 63 (Photoshop), normal idle below 52.

I know it's low but the fan does make a "whiirrrrr" when starting up. But it isn't a problem. I'm just afraid something is broken ._.
