Hi,guys.I'm from China, and my English is poor, so if my questions is ambiguous, please, be patient.
I bought this laotop over 2 years ago. And I know its mainboard is intel PM965, and the GPU is rather bad, GeForce 8400MG-128M.So of course I wanna get my laptop upgraded. I have searched simular questions, and they say it's impossible to upgrade the cpu to quard-core(from Dual-Core T7100 to QX9300,for example). My idea is: can I get my cpu upgraded to be a quard-core one by upgrading my BIOS, say, changing its supporting FSB from 800MHz to 1066MHz, which can made my laptop more efficient.
Once I asked a businessman whether my cpu could be replaced by a quad-core one, he said me no after I give my mainboard info. to him,and tell me that it won't light the computer if I insist. But later I searched from the web that FSB of the mainboard could be upgraded by upgrading BIOS. By this ,the idea comes out from my mind.
    I even search find this:
I called intel at 1-916-377-7000 I talked to Tom from Level 5 tech support he assured me that the intel 965m can support the new cpu however GATEWAY and only gateway can make that happen if they provide bios support for the qx9300 mobile quad cpu
Did this mean that only the Gateway laptop can be upgraded to support quad?
    Thank you !
By the way, if you can reply me in Chinese , that's better. English is OK in simple way.
    My mainboard PM965

Nope no quad or video card upgrade. The QX9300 requires the Intel 45 chipset. The best CPU you can use is the Intel Core 2 Duo T9500.

    But X9000 also support PM965.
    Isn't X9000 better than T9500?

You can put a x9000 in, but lets take a closer look.

    1) The t7100 has a TDP of 35 watts, the x9000 has a TDP of 44 watts. So it make A LOT more heat. Your laptop is designed for 35 watt CPU's not 45 watt. You will also get less battery life. When you overclock it, it will only get hotter. I wouldn't buy, thats why I didn't list it. Also some 965 bios's don't support it.

    2) The T9500 it only 200MHz slower, and half as much. T9500 costs $230, X9000 costs $500.

You are right. What if I use a CPU cooler? Does that relieve abstraction of heat?

A cooler would help a bit, but then your stuck to a cooler whenever you do ANYTHING cpu intensive. IMHO I'd buy a t9300 or t9500, much faster than what you have, and much cooler and only slightly slower than a x9000.

Then what's the advancement of x9000 compared with t9500?

For laptops that have the cooling capability, its a nice CPU.

That's right. And I have another question, can you see the answer on the third floor? Is that OK? I'm thinking that, for my laptop, it won't be lightened if I stick in QX9300, so I could not use the pro_ either. There is no way to make PM965 mainboard support quad-core or Cpu of whoes FSB is 1066MHz,is that right? Then what about those engineers at intel com?And I also wanna change my GPU, which one is the best I could choose? GeForce 8400MG 128M, MXMII port. You're really a good guy. Thanks!

I don't think you can upgrade the video. And theres no way to make your laptop able to use a quad.
