Hi guys, hope somebody is able to help as this is a relatively new machine.

Followed the BIOS upgrade instructions but something must have gone wrong.
All i get now is the fan on and a blue and red LED flashing at the front and the power button flashing.

I did try following the crisis recover thread but to no avail.

Does anyone if for sure if the this model can be recovered from a bad flash?
Also i noticed the original ROM file i was asked to use (replace BIOS.WPH) was 4Mb where most of the modded ROMs are a lot smaller.
Am i right in extracting the JE40122.ROM from the DOS directory and renaming it BIOS.WPH?

Aslo when i press Fn and Esc, the thumb drive lights up for a few seconds then does nothing.

    Any pointers appreciated.

In the new firmware you don't rename it as BIOS.WPH.
The emergency name is usually the same.

Thanks for your help but im still having problems.

I have a FAT formatted 512MB USB thumb drive
I have ran the Acer Aspire 9420 BIOS Recovery Wincris.exe
I then copied over the latest BIOS from Acer web site to the root of the thumbdrive.

The thumb drive now has the following files:-

    BIOS.WPH
    JE40122.ROM
    MINIDOS.SYS
    PHLASH16.EXE

Power up the laptop holding Fn and Esc.

The only thing that happens is the Blue and Red LED alternate.

    Am i doing something wrong?

I notice there are two different ways to recover crashed BIOS. One is the phoenx recovery, the other is the Wincris.

Which one should i be using?
Also when people refer to the correct BIOS, can i assume that the .ROM file is the BIOS or is that something else?

    Thans

When I checked using phoenixtool says: Insyde BIOS not phoenix.
I don't understand why do you assume it is Phoenix?
Based on understanding of Insyde BIOS recovery filenames it should be
    either JE40x64.fd or JE40122x64.fd.

Sorry i assumed this model had a phoenix bioas based on what aother user had posted. I will double check that now.

Where do i get the BIOS files you mentioned from?
    Thanks again

Hmm maybe i should point out that my Acer laptop is from Singapore. I notice on the Acer euro site that many of the BIOS downloads include the .FD files. For the Singapore download it give a ROM file only.
Anybody know where i can get the FD file for my model ?

    Thanks

Try this file: request download ticket | ifile.it

Burn it to a CD, or copy to a FAT pendrive.

No USB floppy drive or Crisis Disk utility needed - Phoenix SecureCore Tiano is not PhoenixBIOS (in fact, it is not even a BIOS at all - it is actually an EDK-II derivative UEFI firmware).

Note that this image will not restore your BIOS - it will be loaded as a temporary BIOS allowing you to boot to an operating system and flash a new BIOS image.
