purchased a 4810t monday, arrived yesterday, love it, apart from the freezes!
i've had 3 freezes in the space of 24 hours, 1 while doing something in photoshop, 1 while bringing it out of hibernate and 1 running acer updater.
i've searched the forums and read about the freezes but thought it wouldnt happen to mine as its newer.
so my question is what can be done to stop the freezing? i've uninstalled all the bloatware, and uninstalled the intel storage control (i heard that helped) is there anything else I can do?
i really love this thing but if it keeps freezing i'll have to return it, my 6920g never froze in all the 3 years ive had it!

I get freezes for 20 seconds or so a few minutes after i come out of standby on my 5810T, it is just faulty drivers/software , not a hardware fault and i have never had a bsod , I just wish i could find a fix for it.
EDIT : Another Newcastle United fan here -

it seems to be all the timelines then. i waited a couple of mins each time, but no response, i had to manually switch it off, very annoying!

Mine starts to respond after about 20 seconds or so, you should not have to turn it off , have you done and memory test and a cpu stress test say, wprime ??

Guys I suggest you to Clean install and find & grab the latest drivers from this site.
While you are at it update to at least 1.17 BIOS as well. -

My 5810T came with Win7 Premium and it use to freeze , I upgraded to Win7 Ultimate a clean format install, all chipset and video drivers are the latest and i still get the freezes coming out of standbye.

weinter what do you mean by clean install?? i've got a bootable windows 7 disk i made when i purchased windows 7 student edition, would that work? my bios is 3.15
-
Driver Station is indeed the latest.
Every time some OEM release a new driver it is immediately mirrored there.
Which version is the BIOS?
As for how to clean install check the older thread still here in Acer subforum -

Have you tried to use the recovery partition , you press alt + f10 on bootup , it will return you notebook to the day you bought it, so backup all your data to another drive.

I installed ulimate about a month ago and i downloaded the lastest intel chipset driver , my bios 1.33 the latest , the video driver is ati cat 10.5
It could be the acer power management driver , but i have the latest

newcastlefc200 Notebook Consultant
so weinter you reckon a clean install is the way forward? why is this??
also ive upgraded the vga, lan, and realtek driver, what chipset driver do i need?? -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
I have been been using drivermax for a few years , you only get two free downloads a day but it will tell you what drivers are out of date.
-
GS45 is Intel Chipset.
Harddisk Controller Drivers use Intel Rapid Storage it is supported by GS45 chipset Southbridge Controller.
Personally I feel it is important to know all the devices in your laptop by hand so you know which drivers are needed. -
newcastlefc200 Notebook Consultant
can't find a driver for that on the intel website??
theres mobile series 4, is that the one? -
Anything GS45 and above use Rapid Storage, Matrix Storage is for older chipset using older ICH controller.
For Chipset Grab the latest

cheers man!
on to the bios, how do i install that? after downloading the newest one i see theres a .exe, do i just run that?? -
Make sure you don't interrupt the flashing process.
Make sure AC is connected with battery.
Close ALL Programs make sure no major program that can potentially interrupt the flashing process is running
Then run the exe with Admin Permission. -

my bios says rev 3.5, is that the version number? on the acer website the most it goes up to is 1.33, so mines newer?
edit: its actually 1.30, so i'll update, wish me luck! -

Well it went ok, let's see if it helps with the freezes! Another thing anyone know if the processer uses a driver? I keep getting a 100% spike, might have something to do with the crashes

well I updated the bios and the drivers, i hadn't had a freeze at all until this morning, coming out of hibernate, I think its because I tryed to do something about 5 secs after it came out of hibernation, but i normally do this on my 6920g

Hmm, my 5810T has stopped freezing when i come out of sleep mode , it`s been over a day and i have put my notebook to sleep many times.
The only things i have done was use drivermax to update my usb drivers , and then downloaded the latest intel chipset drivers , but the only thing i saw it update was the sata hdd controller though it is still dated 04/06/2009
So i am not sure what fixed it, but fixed it is -

How do I do the drivermax thing? Can I update manually when it tells me what to update? I've never had a prob coming out of sleep, just hibernate
-

Have you just tried to update the chipset drivers to the latest first ,I will find the link for you.
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...08/infinst911autol.exe&DwnldId=18494&lang=eng
run in dos , type cmd and run as administrator infinst911autol.exe -overall -overwrite -

Drivermax , you have to register and you are only allowed to update 2 driver a day for free, the only one i did was the usb

I always knew driver issues were fixable.
Just remember:
Know your devices and know what drivers they need.
I think you don't really need drivermax you just need to understand your laptop better. -

If you are frightened to mess up you notebook , install the free Comodo time machine, it only takes seconds to get your computer back as it was , just remember to take a snapshot before you change anything.

thanks tinderbox, unfortunetly I already used my driver downloads for the day! but its good to know its fixable, i'll just keep updating daily and see how it goes!
there was a chipset download from windows update so i installed that as well! -
newcastlefc200 Notebook Consultant
hey weinter, i've got loads of errors, what do i do to fix them?
-
I would suggest a clean install of the OS first.
For drivers for Acer Aspire 4810
You need
1)Intel Chipset Driver (any latest from driver station)
2)Intel Rapid Storage Driver (any latest from driver station)
3)Realtek Audio Driver (any latest from driver station)
Graphics hybrid drivers if you have discrete graphics (This you have to check laptopvideo2go for any compatible hybrid drivers for both Intel and ATi Graphics
4)Synaptics Touchpad(any latest from driver station)
5)Launchmanager from Acer Download (Because there are unique driver customisation)
6)Wireless drivers (atheros or Intel)(any latest from driver station)
7)Acer Smart Power Manager from Acer Download (Because there are unique driver customisation)
8)WebCam driver (latest from driver station)
9)Card Reader & Bluetooth (latest from driver station)
I think this will be all.
Note that many devices uses all in 1 generic drivers( so it is easy to identify which driver you need) -
newcastlefc200 Notebook Consultant
Thanks man, I'll give that a go!

Oh weinter, what happens if I return the laptop? I can't do a clean install other wise it will wipe the recovery partition no?
-
-
newcastlefc200 Notebook Consultant
the recovery partition is on c though.
i've wiped it back to factory settings and installed all drivers i possibly can, and see what its like for a few days, if it freezes again its going back! -
C:\ refers to the second partition on the harddisk not the harddisk device. -
newcastlefc200 Notebook Consultant
Ah ok, well so far so good, no crashes all day! Fingers crossed!
Aspire 4810T Freezes arggghh!
