    Hi.
Ok, I'm helping a relative and her new 4810T and it seems that it is having trouble staying connected to the net.

That is, the wifi connection randomly disconnects and reconnects, which is especially annoying when she is on MSN or whenever she is logged on to a HTTPS site (she has to log in again on the next refresh).

Does anyone here know how to resolve this? Or maybe Acer has a new driver for the 5100?

BTW, the OS installed is the factory Vista (with the usual bloatware - I deleted most of them). Can deleting certain Acer bloatware cause wifi issues?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried switching the network settings to 'automatically connect to this network when in range'?

Mine was set to manual, and therefore not reconnecting when the signal dropped out.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yep - that setting is on. Though what I'm (and me relative) finding annoying is that it randomly just disconnects by itself, for no reason at all (I've got a VAIO Z but it never disconnects unless I tell it to). When on MSN and other social networking sites, she finds it extremely annoying.

Another thing that is worth noting. I recently changed the wireless router password to a WPA2 (from a WPA). Though I'm pretty sure that won't cause random wifi disconnections (Vista on the Z never had issues).

Can you tell me what version driver you are using for the 5100AGN?

At the moment I'm running 12.4.1.4, because I installed Windows 7 and didn't update any of the drivers as I was trying to solve a freezing issue.

Previously, I would have been running the most up-to-date driver, when you automatically update from the device manager. I think this worked better in low signal areas.

EDIT: Just installed 13.0.0.107, which is most up-to-date when searching automatically.

Me relative's machine is running the factory Vista (and will probably get her the upgrade soon). Though due to the fact that she is moving away in a week or so, I think I'll get the driver... Which brings me to the next issue...

Vista's 'automatic' driver update says that 12.4...... is the latest. I tried looking on Acer's and Intels site, and can't find anything that is as new a 13.0.0.107. Any idea where I can download that (from an official site, if possible...)

    Cheers

I had a similar problem on my 4810TZ, I'm using W7 and default drivers. I figured out that my router was the issue, even though my other computers on WIFI wouldn't get disconnected.

Can you tell me what settings in your router you tweaked to get it working?

I upgraded to 13.0.0.107 via the device manager.

    Maybe it's only a Windows 7, or 64bit, driver.

Saying that, it doesn't seem to like the wifi connection at work, whereas a previous version I had worked fine.
