I changed the boot order to Floppy, then CD, then Hard Drive, like I've done in all my previous notebooks and desktops. This is my first Acer. Because there is really no floppy drive present the boot process halts because there is no command.com available in a boot floppy. In all my previous notebooks, the bios simply ignores the absence of a floppy drive and continues to the next device in the boot order. This Acer 5002WLMi does not.

Has anyone else come across this or has a solution, other than putting the Floppy last in the boot order?

I have an Acer 8104 - my order is Floppy Devices / CD / Hard Drive / Network Devices and it boots fine.

I did flash my BIOS a while ago (Currently Phoenix System BIOS version S3C22).

Maybe you need a BIOS upgrade ?

I was leaving a bios upgrade as a last resort :D Anyway I solved it by using the Acer eManager to make the change and it worked. Previously I was going into the Bios manually (F2 at startup).

After using eManager I went in manually again to check it and it had changed. Strange it didn't work the manual way.

    Thanks for your reply

I always put the hard drive first - that way, the laptop boots faster because it is the first one in line. ;)
