    Hi,

My Aspire 5024 WLMi gets very hot this summer (it's late evening right now but temperature is 29 in my room :). I'm using Win XP x64.

    I've tried many things:
    - clean fan vents,
    - setting fan always enabled option
    - improved air circulation in room - HDD temp dropped to 54 :),
    - I have reduced background task in system and any of processes don't eat too much CPU (I've uninstalled eLuncher because I've seen problems with it),
    - I've installed newest AMD Turion drivers,
    - power management is Portable/laptop.

    What I haven't tried yet:
    - CPU undervoltage

Temperatures when computer is almost idle (just viewing web pages) :
    HDD : 55 - 59 C
    CPU : 68 C

Hard disc temperature never gets down below 55.
Hard disc model is Samsung MP0804H 80 GB (5400 rpm)

I have this laptop for 5 months. Previously I've used Win XP HE, notebook was warm but I think it was cooler than now days (but temperature of environment was 10 C lower too :)

Strange thing is despite the fact that HDD is warm, fan runs very slow ... I think too slow ('fan always enabled option' is disabled).

    Questions:
    1) Is it normal temperature ranges for 5024 ? should I worry ?
    2) Maybe it is driver issue and I should format system partition
    3) Should I buy cooler and does such cooler blows air up or down ?

I've seen that most of coolers rise back side of notebook but user manual says that laptop should be put on flat surfaces (maybe work at such angle gives stress to hdd ?).

Another problem is that some coolers have in font panel for wrists - unfortunately Aspire have output port for speakers there ...

    Hey,

68 degrees for CPU Idle is very very high for the 5024. Mine is running at around 54-55 when not undervolted, and around 50 when undervolted to .975V. Are you sure your processor is set to throttle/underclock itself properly? I.E does it actually go down to 800mhz, or does it stay at 1800?

Yes, it runs at 800 MHz when idle ...

Those are about the temperatures I get on my Aspire 5002WLMi. I think it may be a cooling issue. You should get a notebook cooler. You really don't want it to reach 95C.

If it is still under warranty maybe you should call Acer and ask them to look at your laptop's cooling system.

You could look into a chill mat, or always run your notebook in an A/C room or enviornment.

Coolpad seems to be good idea, but most of coolers rise back side of notebook ... and user manual says that laptop should be put on flat surfaces ...
