    Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!!

At first a big hello to all of you...now, I´m also one of you with big trouble on little notebook...I hope I´ll get help here....

When I try to start my 5050, it just get stucked with a black screen...sometimes I can see the "acer welcome screen", sometimes not...I can only hear the fan, that starts to work...It doesn´t matter, if I use the Battery or not....and the best is: After trying to boot it about 10 times, it works normally, as if there is no problem...

additionally, there are sometimes slow downs, e.g. when I try to minimize the browser window (I mean to remember that the fan also begins to work than)....and the clock gets stuck at the time, I shut down the laptop...the OS is XP, I have enough free space on all hard disk´s and never had trouble with graphic card or something like this...I also checked it for Virus, Rootkits etc....nothing, everything is fine...so where could be the problem?? :(

    THANKS from Germany....
    Lady T.

First things first, this model sufferes from a problem with the sleep switch. Check to see whether its stuck. It should be located on the top right above the keyboard. The bit that sticks out sometimes gets stuck below the casing if this is the case then all you have to do is prise it back out with a pair of tweezers. If this is not the case then its a fault with the mainboard and will require repairing/replacing. This could also be causeing your slowness issues. Hope this helps

Forget to mention in my previous post that this may be a RAM issue aswell. Before trying anything else I would see how it runs with different RAM in it just to factor this out of the equation

    Good morning again! :)

Thanks for your help so far...the sleep switch is ok and the ram is also ok...I have to correct my first post, it does always boot up, but sometimes in normal speed (about 1 minute), sometimes very very slow (about 5 - 8 minutes) where it gets stuck with a black screen in between and continues after some minutes(!).

I sometimes get the information, that drive F: is full, as I know, this is the part, where the system backup is saved, am I right??? Could the problem be there??

Or could it be the CMOS Battery perhaps?? As I said, the time gets stuck when I shut down the laptop and when I boot it later on, it´s still the same time...

    THANKS to all of You!

    Lady T.

Ah, Sounds like their may be a problem with the HDD. A few tests should confirm if its faulty or not. Windows should not be able to see the recovery partition as it should be hidden. The hidden partitions hsould not cause any of the problems as it is not being used. May also simply need a reinstall as some files are a little corrupt. Failing all of this then i'm afraid that I have to say that the m/b or CPU is at fault as nothing else really causes that fault. Hope this helps

The HDD is also alright, I can´t see the drive f:, it is hidden...there was only the massage at a startup..I can only see that there is a drive f: in the system control center!

I would try a Alt-F10 recovery. If that doesn't work then you'll probably need a new mainboard
