I've had chronic trouble with this Aspire 5100, for a long time surprise shutdowns overnight, but also problems where it just won't come out of screen-saver mode.

The surprise shutdown hasn't happened in several weeks, following a successful BIOS update to 3.13 from 2.87, so if I'm lucky, that problem is gone.

However, the screen saver problem, after tricking me into thinking it was solved, has returned. The screen goes to screen saver sometimes, and just won't come out of it. If I jiggle the mouse (a Microsoft Notebook Optical Mouse), the red light of the mouse acts normally, as if the computer is acting properly, but nothing, no messing with mouse buttons, the keyboard, or quick presses of the power key takes it out of screen saver mode.

It is Vista SP1, OEM Vista, upgraded to SP1. The problem has been around seemingly since day 1.
