I just inserted a CD that I wanted to rip and nothing happened. When I went to my computer, there wasn't even a CD/DVD there. There is also not a CD/DVD installed in device manager. It had worked in the past, and no changes have been made to the computer. I am running Vista.

turn the unit off. with the lid opened and the unit on a hard flat surface press down firmly with the palm of your hand just to the left of the touchpad. not so much as to break plastic, but a nice firm press

without moving or relocating the unit power it back on and go into the bios.

if you see your optical drive then it will work for a bit, but the mainboard is failing.
