Hi, I bought this laptop about a year ago and recently this problem with the monitor came up. The monitor appears as if it has no back light, so everything is really dark but can sometimes see what I am doing. I can see what I am doing by pressing fn + F6 to get 0.5-1 sec bursts of bright light (as if the monitor were working). I've tried restarting, but upon the initial Acer startup screen, the left half of the monitor is a dark semicircle, while the right half is lit as if it were 0% LCD brightness (like the config you do in Acer ePower Management>LCD brightness 0%) for a few seconds and it goes back to having no backlight. Thanks.

a very odd problem; it sounds like the backlight on the display has died, however it could also be the inverter not supplying enough power to the backlight.

you could also try booting the unit without the battery in as the battery can cause problems like this.
