This is a two-pronged problem with my Aspire 5100-3357:

    1) I've been doing some OS switching lately due to DVD burner trouble. Far as I know, my Mat****a DVD UJ-850S burner worked fine on the factory installation of Vista. Later, I went down to XP, and discovered I had some trouble with XP recognizing CD-Rs (DVD+Rs burn fine in external programs, but not recognized in Vista), so I went back to Vista, and now it pretty much only coasts discs despite recognizing them, so its even more worthless than usual.

    2) So next I tried using the Acer eRecovery backup discs I burned using eRecovery when I got my laptop a year ago, Vista would install fine, but whenever it went through reinstalling the Acer programs, it would be stuck installing the eRecovery...it would look like it was working but would stay at that screen for hours. there isn't really a way to close it and I can't really install anything else because I can't move the window and installation prompts always appear behind the Acer installation window.

so in short, what I need help with is:
    1) Getting my recovery disk to install everything properly
    2) Getting my Mat****a UJ-850S to read and write recordable media without screwing them up

    Thanks for your help!
