    Hi there.

I have an Acer Aspire 5310 laptop which appears to have a dead bios and i'm hoping someone can help me bring it back to life.
Although I'm not a complete novice with computers i have always avoided messing with things like the bios etc... (if it's not broke dont fix it sort of thing lol!..) so i'm struggling a little on what some of you would consider basic steps.

The Laptop powers on, the fan spins for a few seconds and the hard disk light comes on..... I've followed several threads on different forums which have led me to believe that it is the bios.
If i remove the battery, press and hold the fn + Esc keys and then plug in the ac adapter, the power light flashes orange for a second. While continuing to hold fn + Esc, if i press the power button the fan spins constantly and slightly louder than before... but nothing else happens???

I've tried to follow steps to flash the bios using a usb stick and the bios versions 1.50 from the acer website but to no avail.

Can someone please help as there doesnt seem to be any info on the bios for this particular model. I'm assuming because there is only one bios available then its not as common for people to have crashed it and needed a recovery as it is for the 5315??

any help really would be appreciated as i'm tearing my hair out.....

    Hello,

I had the same problem on my Aspire 7720ZG. I've tried the Fn+Esc method and it didn't work with an USB stick but you can try with a FDD USB Drive.

    Here is the method:
    http://www.wimsbios.com/forum/topic10069.html

This method didn't work with mine but my bios isn't in WPH format, that's probably the reason.

For the Aspire 7720 I just have to copy my bios file (in FD format) directly on a FDD USB drive and start the laptop with the Fn+Esc method and let it work for 2 minutes. Try this if the first method doesn't work.

Hi Ibra87 thanks for the help.

Unfortunately the first method didnt work ut not quite sure what you mean in method 2 by "FD format".
I've downloaded the bios from acer and it comes with 3 files:
    BIOS.wph
    Bios_V1.50.exe application
    readme.txt

it's the bios.wph file which i have copied and tried to use with method 1 but is this any help for method 2?

If you've any ideas that would be much appreciated as i'm starting to lose patience with it now and thinking i may have been given something someone has already done a 'bad' flash on??

    Many thanks
