Why is it that whenever I play music on my notebook it constantly skips? Is it something to do with my RAM? Or Windows Media Player? Or could it be another issue?
cheers

I would say check your cpu cycles and make sure nothing is burdening it so that it can't play music files smoothly. Other than that, maybe the tracks themselves are damaged. Can you play these on any other computer fine?
-
Yeah they worked fine on my old computer, transferred them over with a portable hard drive and they keep skipping on here
-
...and at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot...how do I check my cpu cycles?

Ctrl-alt-del to get to Task Manager or right click Task Bar and open Task Manager that way.
Also, on the off chance, did you happen to uninstall or install iTunes recently? -
try a BIOS update for the unit, its a windows-based flash process and its automated so you dont need to know anything apart from the machine that you want to flash. I've seen this on many machines and if my memory serves me correctly the 5315 is one of the machines that have this issue.
-
I'm struggling to find a BIOS update...anyone point me in the right direction?
-
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_5315/vista/Bios/v1.25.zip
there you go... that'll get you version 1.25 -
Cheers Lee, but whenever I try and run it I get a pop up warning saying that it can't load the driver and to close all applications, and when I do it still doesn't work :S
-
Just right-click on the executable and select run as administrator; that should allow the BIOS update to run -
Cheers for all the help but I still have the problem

Just to make sure, go to Device Manager, expand IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, double click Primary IDE Channel, go to Advanced Settings and look at Current Transfer Mode for Device 0. If it's in PIO Mode, right click Primary IDE Channel, Uninstall, and reboot when prompted.
Post back if it's not in PIO Mode. -
There isn't even a primary IDE Channel :s this gets worse!
-
it has a SATA 2 AHCI controller if i'm not mistaken so if there is an issue there thats where you'll find it
-
Ugh this brings up a different pop up that doesn't even have Advanced Settings! What on earth is going on! Haha I bet I'm really irritating you now!

I feel gypped now. My TM8204 isn't in SATA mode
The Acer BIOS forces it to emulated PATA. What's available under whatever category your SATA controller is under?
-
I have four IDE Channels, the SATA one and an Ultra ATA Storage controller...if thats what you mean!
-
i had a similar problem and couldn't reset back to DMA.
