    Nice one!

How about fan speed control, what are people using for these? My fan is cycling on to high more than it used to, How can I keep it on low or medium under light load? Any good programs people have had success with?

i have yet to find a good one or any that actually control the fan on this model...

which BIOS are you using??? i've noticed that newer bios releases seem to activate the fan more often

but i'm about to switch back to version 1.34 despite the COLD BOOT problems,,, because i'm having the sond problems so many people complain about with the 5720...

if that BIOS is better w/ the fan i'll post

    later,

So does the T8300 work ?

I suppose 2 gig chips work, but do they work in pairs in dual channel mode ?

The reason I haven't tried 2 gig chips is cpuz says 2048 max, doesn't say
    per socket or total.

My 5315-2153 has very low volume, sound is okay just not loud.

Must be a chip problem in these things or funky drivers.

My stock 5315 runs 62 C 100 % loaded, use the Windows Experience Index
update to test it. Seems hotter since I uped the bios from 1.17.
Should've checked before I uped it to 1.34.

Anybody tested before and after ?

you might consider a T5450 CPU upgrade

    better battery life,
    less heat,,
    and more CPU power..
also 2 gig of RAM is a must... especially w/ vista

i just got a acer aspire 5315-2256 and i'm looking to upgrade to a T5450.

the cpu i have right now its a celeron 540. the fsb its slower on this one.
will the T5450 will work at 667 mhz???

mine got a pink socket too.

yes you can upgrade atleast as high as a T7700... probably all the way to the T9000's but so far the highest i have confirmed is the T7700

MAKE SURE YOU BUY A SOCKET P CPU...

we should have a T8300 confirmation within 3 to 5 days depending on shipping.... and with that pink slot you just follow the instructions on the very first POST in this thread

if you upgrade RAM make sure to buy PC5300 or PC6400 because when the CPU FSB increases to 667,,, the RAM speeds jump up to match it...

but if you go w/ an 800mhz FSB CPU,, the RAM's max speed is ALWAYS LIMITED TO 667Mhz max by the i965 chipset.... but purchasing PC6400 ram might get you ram w/ lower latency times.. meaning faster memory reads and writes...

i also have another aspire 5315 thread that is on the first or second page of the ACER threads... it has a lot of great info including how to DOWNGRADE from VISTA to WINDOWS XP....

this laptop will shock you when upgraded to 2G RAM,, a Core2Duo CPU running XP,,, you'd swear it was a different laptop....

i've got $495 plus a few $$ tax and shipping in mine... and i've had that much fun just mod'ing it!!!

POST A FEW MORE TIMES or send me an email address... i have a link u may need

    Hey Bigozone,
first of all, nice thread. I've got aspire 5315-2875.
I'm a real noob to modding pc.
I just want to ask you one question for now. Where can I buy the mobile CPU??
I live in Canada I tried to go to every computer shop I could find and none of them sell mobile CPU. They suggested desktop CPU 'cause they said it will be ok. However, desktop PC is hotter and I dont want any hole below my laptop because of the heat. So I'm pretty much stuck here can someone help me please....

DESKTOP CPUS will not fit the 5315... see the links to CPU GUIDES in my other thread
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=251130

take the cover off the back of your laptop... look for a PINK socket under the heatsink

i've bought 5 used moblie CPUs from EBAY... all work great

just search for CORE 2 DUO SLA

should return socket P mobile core2duos

as long as it's socket p it should work.

im about too order a T8100.

the bigo seems to think even the t9xxxx series would work. the only way is to try. and from people too post there success's or failures
i shall hopefully reply with a success of my t8100 upgrade in a week or so :D

    thats a good price. though

    he does say "No returns."

i personally like buying new computer parts. im just a skeptical bastard lol !

i KNOW FORSURE the T7700 and lower socketP CPUs are supported.. and i have seen 1 report of a T8100 working... plus the fact that acer is now selling T8300 CPUs with this motherboard (in Aspire 7720) but they use the same BIOS so i see no reason why we can't upgrade to T8100 or higher..

thanks for the recognization and support

finally got round to doing the upgrade, i have a 5315 which was purchased earlier this year it doesnt have a pink or grey CPU socket but instead has a creamy almost white one.

Upgrade took 15 mins start to finish including flashing the bios to 1.33.

Seems the Creamy white socket needs no modification my t5550 just dropped straight in! :D

    New specs T5550 1.83ghz core 2 duo, 2gb 667mhz ram, 250gb toshiba 5400rpm hdd.

tbh i'm happy with the simplicity of the upgrade and seeing as i thought id have to sell it to end up with a similar spec lappy its seriously prolonged it life!

temps will go DOWN due to SPEEDSTEP technology and the fact that the new CPUs are built on a smaller die and with more effiecient manufacturing technologies

don't sweat the heat..... that CELERON is the HOTTEST socketP cpu these laptops can support

yeah i have noticed the fan not spinning anywhere nearly as much as it used too.

using hw monitor its cut almost 10degc off the idle and 3-4 of the load temps.

tbh i'm loving this lo-cost lappy. and the gma 3100 is more then up to what i use it for.

Gained 30mins on the batterylife also!!!!!

follow it's directions and you may get your temps down a bit more.. and will probably gain more battery life

Hello people!I am a new user on this forum.I bought a 5315 laptop 2 days ago
that has a Celeron 560.I read this thread and opened mine to see id I had a pink
socket.Surprisingly I have a dark grey one. What does this mean? And what's with the mod to the socket? Is that necessary if I want to install a more powerful CPU?

does anyone know why acer are using 3 differant coloured cpu sockets the dark grey one (designed for celerons) the pink and white one which seem to be the full core2 socket just with diferrant colours?

also is the whiter coloured socket newer as no-one on here seems to own a 5315 with one.

different production runs by the manufacturer.... they run out of one part,, they buy the cheapest replacemnet that will meet the customers' specifications..

I'm a bit afraid to diassemble the cooler system because I know that the processor die is not covered by a heatspreader and I wouldn't want to chip the core.Plus I guess this would void my warranty. For the moment I will leave it be because I have a powerful enough desktop to fit my needs.I opened the
laptop just out of sheer curiosity.Plus the computational power the Celeron 560 gives me is enough for what I need.

I just got a T7100, planning on doing the upgrade in a couple of days, I've just got one question, I'd like to keep my default RAM for now which works on 533Mhz, will there be any problems if i stick in the T7100 because it has a rated FSB of 800Mhz?

    Any help appreciated !

Dont worry about the ram....if it is PC2-4200 it will continue to function at 533MHz and if it is PC2-5300 it will then function at 667MHz....!!
