Great, thanks for clearing that up.

all ways here
Phil -
one had m420 the other 530, the 530 could be a 5315, what was the m420
a 3680 ? Or am I wrong that the 5315 never has had a m420 ?
Also those with sound problems, try the acer drivers and up to the new 196
from realtek. Also do you have a RtkBtMnt.exe in your temp file under your
user name ? It's in user name\Local Settings\Temp, two of my installs do
and one don't.
Had a BSOD, went back to 1.19 bios, it supports every processor I'll ever buy.
Might go to 1.21 if I buy 3 gig of ram.
James -
correct the 5315 only had m5xx never seen or heard of one with m4xx.
-
So was that 530 you told BigO about in a 5315 ? What was the m420 in ?
Was thinking of an upgrade to a T5450, wonder should I check the
socket first to see if I need a thumb tack !
James -
have you run all the chipset ID checks and mother board ID ?
edit phoning mate (find out make not sure dell). -
Yep, somewhere I wrote down the info inside, CPUZ info:
Mainboard Model Acadia (0x233 - 0x715E20)------ICL50
Northbridge Intel GM965 rev. C0
Southbridge Intel 82801HBM (ICH8-ME) rev. 03
So was that 530 you told BigO about in a 5315 ?
James -
When changing the cpu do you put any thermal paste on the cpu chip?
I'm thinking of putting some arctic silver 5 paste on it but I'm a little afraid of it getting some contact it shouldn't. -
sorry to confuse everyone..
BUT NO SOCKET MODIFICATION IS NEEDED -
-
http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appinstruct/as5/ins_as5_intel_dual_wcap.pdf
or google it, til ya read one that makes it clear to you.
James -
Well i just found this guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=77860 which is pretty good but looking at the pictures he doesn't spread the paste over the whole cpu, but i guess that's an age long dillema
.
-
Just upgraded the cpu with the T7100.
Had that white/creamy socket color, just dropped the cpu in and voila!
This was by far the easiest upgrade i've done to date and i've done my fare share of them (desktop that is).
-
nice one Sova -
glad it went easy for ya.. and you didn't even need a thumbtack
-
-
Lol
.............. -
this thread should now get sticky status.
as the 5315 is a cheap laptop and more and more people buy it just for its upgrade potential.
just look at the view count.
its time BigO got his sticky -
thanks for the the oppinion hoggie
-
and ive started the campaign for your sticky mate -
I'm all in
(I have pair aces what do you have
)
+1 vote for a sticky -
im in full house 3's and Q's
-
i guess that means that i need to work and try to combine this and the other Aspire 5315 ugrade and other info thread into this one...
and i'll have to do a bit of house cleaning.... -
great thread and great advice from bigo, deffo sticky it!! bigo did u ever find out if the penryn chip works on the 5315?
-
still waiting on confirmation.... wish the new BIOS files had CPU ID support info in the change log...
there are 2 people i'm in contact w/ who are trying a T8100 and a T8300
so soon we will have an answer -
campaign for BigO's sticky starts here.
Good luck
Phil -
now to tidy up the LINKS to other threads...
and embed some real PICs... now that i have a manual for my Camera i plan on adding PICs into some of the steps of the upgrade
i need to PM Krazy about "borrowing his ACER logo" from his sticky -
Hi guys, new here.
Am I correct in my assumption that this socket requires modification to take a C2D? If so would anyone be willing to give me details on how to complete the mod?
Thanks.
-
NO SOCKET MODIFICATION NEEDED...
i have been looking at the wrong CPU... SocketP CPUs have the 2 pins on the bottom row missing -
Grrrr bloody forum restrictions.......anyway, we have had this 5315 since Nov and it's been ok...well, acceptable.........
I am running Vista Ultimate (32 obviously) and it's just a bit painful at times when running the full aero.
Plan is to drop in a T7500, 2GB Low Latency RAM and a 250GB HDD, would also like to add Bluetooth but I haven't got a clue where to start with that.
email recieved, tyvm.......will read with a cup of coco, it's 3am here in the UK! -
Seems like this is a great thread and has been helpful to many. It's now a sticky. Great work.
-
So what does it need to be modified for ? Every P processor I've seen has
the same pinout, you know two missing on one row.
These show it well. Claims to support Intel® Core 2 Duo processor Merom with Socket P @ 800 MHz FSB. ie:T7700, T7500, T7300, T7100

Congratulations!!!
And thanks for your always kind support whatever the problem is
Kindest Regards!!! -
Okay, thanks for the info BigO, all the processors I've seen pictures of
have two pins missing. Even the T5450 pictures have two missing so your either buying engineering samples or something is not right !
Generic pictures maybe ?
Intels pictures show two pins missing, their site is hard to find any real
info.
Anybody got a real picture of a T7700, T7500, T7300, T7100 or a T8100,
T8300 ? Does anybody remember how many pins their's had ?
Will not upgrade mine til the warranty is out in November, hope I can
get a T7700 or an T8300 then "cheap".
James -
I recently upgraded T2370 to T7500, don't have any photos but I can confirm 100% that 2 pins are missing in both.
-
the two missing pins are pin 1 on the bottom row and the pin directly beside it on bottom row... so you guys are right
i did the mod on my socket when trying to install a SOCKET M cpu which has pin1 ON BOTTOM and the pin directly above it missing... (yeah back in my uneducated days)
where the SOCKET P has the first two on the bottom row missing,,,
trust me... i would never melt a hole in my CPU socket if it didn't have to be done... bigO -
-
james and yourself are correct.... sorry for any confusion... -
Thanks for the info and picture atthegates.
BigO thanks for doing the checking, now it all makes sense.
Thought I was loosing my mind or intel had made M's into P's.
Intel sure is making a lot of mobile processors, anybody benched
a T 8300 against a T 7700 ?
Is a T 8300 a T 7700 minus 1 mb of cache ?
Also , a lot of times I'm not on my own computer so I don't check the remember me option when
logging in. I'm old and slow and have to relogin to post a reply, could the mods, please if possible address
this problem ?
James -
I think that if you dont check the remember me option, u get automatically logged out after 20 mins..!!
and yes the T8300 has 1 MB less cache that T7700, but is said to run more cooler and offers more battery life than the T7700 (which is from the older merom generation) whereas the T8300 is from the newer Penryn-3M generation..!!
if u will be doing more of cpu-intensive tasks go for a T9300....!! its retail version is like $60 more than the retail version of T8300....and it ll really make ur laptop picky..
regarding its compatibility better ask bigO.. -
Congratulations bigozone
