What happens if you enable C-states from Windows using ThrottleStop?

If i use TS to turn on C states inside windows my multiplier goes from 10.5 to 8 or 9 ( although cpuz is showing it at 6 then back to 10.5[1197 Mhz to 2094])

Without C states of course the CPU stays at 10.5 and 2094MHZ

While watching a video cpuz shows the cpu is either 6 or 10.5 with no bouncing but TS shows that it's bouncing around 9-10. I didnt get any stuttering though in videos

Windows is set to be at a 5% minimum for cpu.

Sleep still works, and so does shutdown.

Sounds like a microcode update for T4300 R0 is overdue for Black Edition V4.1.

Where is the Black Edition hosted? If you do update ill be sure to get it. I was surprised to see this little CPU perform so well. It only cost about 6 bucks on ebay and it shows better benchmarks on notebookcheck than the 7300 and it's barely trailing the 8100. The lack of cache doesn't seem to effect most anything i've used it for so far, and it's much snappier than the 2330 it replaced.

Hi, I posted this question on it's on in a different post, but wanted to throw it on here as well in case this might come up (though I realize how old this thread is, and could very well be covered in the oh-so-many posts that I can't seem to wade through).

I swapped out my Girlfriends celeron with a T5800. She likes to play skyrim, and though the game barely plays, she still enjoys it. After installing the new cpu, however, the game became completely unplayable and hitchy. After much research and trial and error, we finally came to the conclusion the voltages are off. We turned down the cpu using throttlestop to 1600mhz from the stock 2000mhz, as well as turned up the VID to 1.25. This fixed the problem, but in my mind it's a temporary fix. According to the Intel website, the t5800 only needs between 1.075 and 1.175 volts to run. Yet we have it turned down 20% and the voltages up to get it to run "kinda"?

Any thoughts or solutions? We're currently running the 1.34 BIOS as I've seen no need to flash to newer. So far I've heard nothing of the new BIOS assisting in voltages or anything like that. Am I wrong?

Thanks in advance for your replies! :)

Where did you get the T5800? You sure it's not an ES chip?
Sounds like a faulty CPU to me..

How would I tell if it's an engineering chip? I bought it off ebay for something like eight bucks. :p Wouldn't bother me to drop kick it into the trash and oder a new one. But I would want to make sure I didn't buy an ES again.

Get CPU-Z and run it, it should detect if the CPU is an ES.

My daughter has a 5315 and has been complaining about how slow it is. Thanks to this thread, I was able to do an upgrade for her. I first did a Bios upgrade for her and after reading this thread decided to go with the 1.43 instead of the 1.45. I was able to find it over at the Acer Euro FTP site. I then added 1 more GB of Ram to give her 3Gb. When I first added the Ram, I put the 2Gb Ram in first, lower slot and the 1gb in the upper slot. I kept getting BSOD. So I remembered reading in another reply here to swap it. I put the 1gb in first and the 2gb in the top slot and voila!!! Success!!!. The computer booted up fine and the full 3gb was seen in Windows. BTW, this machine is running Windows Vista Basic. As far as a processor upgrade, I already had one. It was pulled from a dead 5735Z that I had and is the T3400, (1M Cache, 2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB) Socket P. It went in with no problem. And I discovered that the fan was almost completely filled with dust and needed a serious cleaning. It turns out that she had been having problems with it being noisy and shutting down quite often. Of course she never told me about this, she just said she didn't like using it but now I know why. Most of the problem was due to the crud blocking the fan and the fins. Between the added Ram, upgraded Bios, and getting rid of the Celeron processor, and cleaning the fan, this machine now runs great. Light years faster and my daughter is happy again.

Now I'm getting ready to upgrade my own 3680 again. I had previously updated it maybe 2 years ago to a MB.AZL06.003 motherboard after my last one died. I got it at a good price and it allowed me to upgrade it to a T5500 Core 2 Duo (2M Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB). This laptop is a favorite of mine and has served me well. But I have been limited to 2Gb of Ram. So I decided it was time to upgrade it again. I recently went to Windows 7 and upgraded to a 320Gb 7200rpm harddrive. I found that if I went with a MB.TDX06.005 motherboard ($35 on ebay), I could upgrade to 4gb of Ram. I also decided to go with a faster processor as well. Another $35 on ebay and I got a T7200 Core 2 Duo (4M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 667 MHz FSB). I should have everything within the next couple days and should be good to go. I am still saving $$$ over going with a newer laptop. I should be in good shape for a while now....

what i have upgraded so far:
-from celeron to t8100 and now to an t9300!!!
noticible faster, its runs cool 34 avg, 50 max. battery life doesnt seem affected.

-from 1 gb to 2 gb, en soon ill have 3 gb.
2 gb is good enough for basis tasks, some applications use more RAM
-from 128gb hardisk* to 120gb intel
sandforce based ssd's are lame, they are known for failures
-from 800P lcd to 1200P lcd, it hasnt arrived, i guess it got lost. :(
i realy want to see the improvement, i cant tell

no i bought the lcd only, it has arrived and yesterday i installed it.
1/2 of the vertical pixels aint working, i guess its the limitation of the lcd cable, though i dont know where to buy a good one that fits.

do u have a part nummer so i can buy a good cable?

    DC02000E100 should work.

Keep in mind that it is slightly longer than the original cable (it is meant for the 7720G), so you will have to hide the extra length behind the display.

T4300 should be compatible. If your system works fine with another processor then the BIOS is fine.
I'd say that T4300 you have is faulty.

Thanks ATG for quick reply.Do you know anyone Who successfully upgrade Acer Aspire 5315 to T4300 CPU?People who successfully upgrade to T4300 or T4500 please tell me your story. I'm wonder because It cost me only £5 from ebay.According to benchmark on T4300 it's quite powerful and cheap! So It's worth to get another one from ebay and try upgrade? If not Which CPU for upgrade would you recommended for me?Cheap and powerful?I read something on this forum about BIOS 1.45 Black Edition. What is it?What's difference between Black Edition and normal edition 1.45 BIOS from accer support? Is it worth to upgrade my BIOS 1.45 to Black Edition? If so Where I can download? Back to my T4300 when I manage to boot win xp in safe mode I run CPU-Z and detected this cpu.I'm not sure how many core CPU-Z show.I check in WIndows Hardware and shows both core works ok but in Windows Task Manager show only 1 core? It's wired story with this T4300 but I'm curious why it's happened? Also Bios recognized this cpu but as I wrote I wasn't able to boot my ubuntu 10.04 from hd even in recovery mode and with different images. Also I try run live Cd Ubuntu 10.04 lts 64 bytes edition and didn't run.(froze on some point of installation)Also I try Trtinity rescue CD software and It didn't work properly. So as I wrote I gave up and pull of T1600 from spare Toshiba and put in my Acer and works great.Any way how to check CPU is faulty? Is it any special software? Many Thanks for any help.Sorry for a long post but computers is my hobby and I curious why I couldn't upgrade to T4300.Cheers clever people

    Hi...
    machine: my friend's aspire 5310

    pc wizard 2012 says:
acadia mainboard, serial: lxah30y0497260a5471601 no: mbah302001726234711601
    chipset intel i943/940gml, **
    bus speed 133,
    fsb 532,
    fsb max support 667,
    processor intel pentium T2330 - 1600,
    socket 479 mPGA, ***
internal spec - celeron M 520, codename Merom.
    bios V1.40
(just downloaded v1.50 but not yet updated).

Just done a 2gig RAM upgrade (2 x 1g PC2-5300 667MHz) as a thanks for lending me the machine a number of times, but I'd love to know if this baby's CPU can be upgraded.

**While I had the memory out of the bay, the MB number on a sticker underneath was
mbah302001726234711601. I've found a board on google which begins with the same characters, and it has a 945GM chipset, and another reporting 943GML. First one differs from what pcwiz is telling me, but it does match what pcwiz tells me on it's graphics subsection. 945 chipset! and in the laptop's device manager, under the graphics card, it shows 945 chipset.
However, under system devices in device manager, it shows this...
mobile intel 945gm/gu/pm/gms/940gml/943gml/ and intel 945gt express processor to dram controller - 27ao.

***Also confused about this socket type reported by pcwiz, when it would appear from the little bit of research, that it's a socket M cpu.

So, I'm confused about what chipset the machine has, and what socket type it is, and whether it can be upgraded at all, and therefore hesitant to do anything yet. Please advise, thank you.

and it seems that some of the T5xxxx and T7xxxx cpus can be found as M type, P type, and 478 type. So, there is even more confusion as I almost ordered a T7200 which looks good in every respect except that it's a 478. I found a T7600 and that one was a P type. I've seen a T5500 that's an M - I'm thinking that one can't be wrong, can it? I've seen a 5750 but that doesn't say what socket type. lol. Can anyone clarify what I should be looking for, or ruling out. Thanks a lot...

Your cpu is ok, I get the same results with 2 T4300`s in both a 5315 and an Extensa 4220. Both boot in safe mode but not normally. neither will run Knoppix live. Both have the 960 chipset which doesnt really support the 800 fsb Penryn chips.

Will it work 960 chipset (533mhz)and T7300 with 800Mhz fsb? Or only with T5750 (667mhz)?

    ps
    Now is Celeron M540 1.86mhz, I think it's socket P and 960 chpset.

    The T7300 should work.

The chipset will magically show up as a 965 with a non-Celeron CPU installed.

Both T4300`s were SLGJM and they both work ok in a TM5720 (965)
Both the laptops run ok with Merom chips @800 and XP and Win7 install and run ok. However with the T4300 the XP install hang at T34 after loading one of the chipset .inf`s, Win7 install hangs after copying files at the starting windows screen.

    Can I put a P series chip in a 5315 ? I know the T series will go as I just
did an upgrade on a 5315. But I don't know if a P series will go.
If not, I'll go with a T8100 like the last one.

    Please enlighten. Thank you.

The P series will not work at all. Neither will T-series CPUs with 1066MHz FSB. The chipset has an artificial limitation to block 1066MHz FSB CPUs.

I've got an Acer Aspire 5315 and I've had it for probably 4 years. Looking to upgrade it rather than buy a new PC.

Currently I've got it running on 2gb Ram and a 250gb HDD changed from the base 80gb.

I've got a new HDD coming in the post ( Seagate 750GB Momentus XT) and I want to upgrade my laptop to 3gb RAM at the same time. What is the max speed Ram I can stick in, and actually make full use of?

I'm not looking to upgrade the CPU yet since I can't find any reasonable priced Duocore's out there.

I'm using CPU-Z for the specs. How far can I upgrade the system, DuoCore and 3gb (1gb + 2gb) RAM?

I want to use this 2gb stick of RAM. Crucial 2GB DDR2 PC25300 along with this Crucial 1GB DDR2 PC25300.

Am I right in thinking that the Acer Aspire can only handle 667mhz speed RAM?

Yes, it will only clock RAM up to 667MHz.

However, using 800MHz modules may still be beneficial, as those usually have tighter timings for 667MHz operation. While a PC2-5300 module might run 667MHz @ 5-5-5-15 2T, a PC2-6400 may easily do 4-4-4-12 1T. A PC2-8500 may even give you 3-3-3-8 1T @ 667MHz, which is much faster than 5-5-5-15 2T.

Up to 3GB is possible for all 5315s; 4GB seems to cause problems (even though the virtually identical 5720G takes 4GB just fine).

The best CPU you can get is the T9500. Possibly the X9000 will also work, but that one is rated for 45W TDP (35W for the T9500), which may cause problems. (I've recently came across a 5930G that has been upgraded from P7350, a 25W CPU, to T9100, a 45W one. The difference was enough to fry the power components on the motherboard.)

In that case I'll most likely use PC2-6400 (2GB) and PC2-6400 (1GB) instead. As for the processor I will most likely get a T8100.

I may still use better RAM as you suggested but I only really want to buy from Amazon.co.uk, the problem being that they don't have the RAM I would need in stock and I can't see any sellers on there selling them.

Have a look if you can/want, and see if there is anything else I could use instead without increasing the price by much.

Also would I need to upgrade my BIOS for the CPU (T8100)? I'm currently using 1.43.

1.45 is the latest, but 1.43 should be enough for Penryn support.

Thanks for the heads up. I went with the T8100 and a couple other
hardware pcs to make faster unit. I don't think people realize just
how sweet it is when one mods one of these units and it all comes
together. I'm going to keep it at a T8100, 3 gigs of PC-5300
and a 5300 wifi card. Nothing real extreme, but I was so impressed
with the results of the 1st one I did, what the heck.

I just ordered a T8300 for $32 shipped on ebay. I am going to be upgrading my T5450. What do you guys think? I was looking at the T9300 but they were going for over $100. Good price/performance ratio vs the T9300?

not really, you better put those $100 in a good SSD from crucial or samsung
it would give more speed then a faster proccessor. a better processor only increases speed @100% load. a normal system is not constant at such high loads.

note, after the ssd i upgraded again from T8100 to T9300, it was noticeable inprovement. its i only costed me $65 for the t9300 otherwise i wouldt bought the t9300 ;)

I might of bought a bad chip. I just the t8100, but the unit wouldn't boot at all. This unit is a 5315-2153.
My other was 5315 something. I should of still been able to get the dual core if the chip was good, wouldn't I ?
I need to ask before I go and buy another chip like another t8100 or the t9300.

The chip I bought was advertised as new, but it isn't. I think I got a bad
one.. What do you folks think ?

    Update..

Just found out this new/used laptop is the same as the other one I did, so it looks like a
bad chip. Found out I can't use the 5300 wifi card as it's too short, but I believe I still
have the 4569 I put in the other one. We'll see

By the way, here's the numbers off the t8100 I just got. It may be the wrong chip..

    INTEL O6
    E827B475 SDLAYP

    FF80577T8100
    2. 10/3M/800

Is it the wrong chip ?

The numbers you posted definitely identify your CPU as the T8100. And yes it should work. When you installed it did you make sure that all of the pins were aligned in the socket. The reason I ask this is because there is a notch on one corner of the CPU that aligns with the socket. Very easy to damage the pins if you force it in. When you say the unit doesnt boot at all do you mean it doesnt turn on? Or it doesnt POST?

It doesn't post. It starts, but nothing on the screen and I can't into
BIOS. I reinstalled the Celeron chip and it boots right up. So I'm thinking
a bad chip OR possible bent pins. I'll take a VERY close look.

Took a very close look with a high power mag and the pins are all straight
as can be. Got another chip coming t9300, so we'll see.

Sorry if this sounds a bit of a dumb question, but did you update the BIOS before installing the CPU, if not do this, then reinstall the CPU.

I went with the T8300. For 32 bucks I think it was a good upgrade for the price. This this is flying with the T8300 installed. I know WEI scores arent really a great benchmark but my processor score jumped from 4.6 to 6.0 and memory jumped from 4.4 to 5.5.
