Well, I'm stupid. Can't believe I did this at my age, but wonders never
cease. I claimed the T8100 wouldn't fire off so I duh thought it was a
bad chip. So I bought a T9300. Got it today and installed. It won't even
light up but the for a few seconds on the green light. What the he** ?
So made sure I had updated BIOS and I do at 1.45. For the heck of it
I reinstalled the the T8100 and only used 1 gig of memory. CRAP, it
lit off and runs like the first 5315 I did...It's obvious I had the 2 gig ram along
with the 1 gig in wrong...It's running fast with just the 1 gig. So I recall
a post here somewhere that a member had the same problem when he
installed his 2 gig and 1 gig. I can't recall how he got it to work with
3 gigs, but it's just a matter of seeing which slot likes the 2 gig and
the 1 gig.
Still don't know why the T9300 chip won't work, but I feel like such a
da** fool not checking things first. Live and learn I guess..
Thanks for reading, and the jokes on me.
n2gc
By the way, got the RAM figured out, NOW running 3 gigs, T8100,
4965 wifi, and feel even more dumber than I did. Oh, man..
-
Ok.Now that this 5315 is working like it should with the t 8100, I'm NOW
trying to get this t 9300 working. The BIOS is at 1.45. I can't it to boot
up. No screen, no BIOS info, no nothing,, but I can hear it running the
hard drive. Do I need to go into BIOS or do something else to try and
get this t 9300 chip working ?
Here is the info off the chip :
Intel '06
5819C06O SLAYY
FF80676T9300
2. 50 /6M/800
Does this look like a chip that should work ?
I will say that when I got this chip, it had like a "grey string" or something
kind of substance around a couple of the pins at the base of the pins.
This was suppose to be a new chip, but I have my doubts.
Any suggestions, hints, advice avail ?
Thanks for reading.
n2gc -
Well, SLAYY is definitely the right code - it is what I am using right now.
The "grey string" may be silver-based thermal paste, which could have shorted out some pins. -
Thank you all. I bought T7300 (800MHz bus) and it works well. But now I need to know normal temperature of intel 960 chip. Now 60-70 deg C when AfterEffects rendering. Is it normal?
And what about memory? 1GB+2GB? PC2-5300 (667Mhz) or PC2-6400 (800Mhz) ? Is 800Mhz better than 533/667Mhz or chipset can't use 800Mhz memory? -

How make undervolting?
How maximum hdd I can use with Acer 5315? 500 or 750GB? New big hdd have 4KB sector, it is no problem? -
For undervolting check this guide - http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...arket-upgrades/235824-undervolting-guide.html
Regarding the HDD - no idea. Check a few pages back in this thread, there should be some info on that. -
any laptop should accept the same amount of storage
only if u break the 2tb limit u need 64bit windows. and perhaps uefi
booting up shoud never be a problem as long as the MBR is on the first sector
i have a 1tb drive in my pc and i dont see no reason why it wouldt work on a laptop. -
I know, there is many wrong information. But I think that is good question and interesting information.
I guess different hdd sizes can work normall. -
works just fine. -
The limitation is 2TB for Windows users, as the 5315 doesn't have a 64-bit UEFI. (Black Edition can only unlock 32-bit.) Might be circumventable using EDK-DUET (an EFI-emulating bootloader). Possibly 4K-sectored drives can go higher still.
For Linux and other OSes, HDD size is virtually unlimited. -

Hi All,
Love this website, some really helpful guides such as this one!
I wonder if I could get a second opinion on what I am going to do with my Acer 5315, following research I am going to upgrade the Ram to 4GB (with 64 bit OS) the harddrive to possibly 320GB, and the Processor to the T8300
Here are some links to the hardware I am going to get for this, just want to make absolutely sure that they are the right parts, and that I shouldnt run in to any problems?

Thank you so much for your help -
unless you really need the hd storage space Danniboy you should be looking to install an ssd
a 120GB plus ssd like the crucial M4 or the OCZ's agility 3 should be able to saturate the 5315's data bus, but most importantly will make the laptop fly! -
why? there are known for failure.
not all of them, still a lot more then the non ocz ssd's (20% vs 2%)
link to newegg: here
and furtermore: they do not meet the speeds on the package:there is no such thing as 550 mb/s nor 300.
-
4GB of RAM won't work, unofficially 5315 support up to 3GB in a specific stick/slot combo
-
Hey guys,
Thanks for your advice about the SSD drives - wasnt sure that it would work on this laptop but if you are certain this will work, I will DEFO look in to this, would be a brilliant speed upgrade - plus size isnt much of an issue, so long as its bigger than its original 80GB harddrive lol!
I have recently received and installed the t8300 that I linked to above, bought that exact one - it worked at first, however when I rebooted it then didnt boot upit had a black screen and wasnt going any further - I had to revert back to the old celeron and it worked fine again.
Wondered if this was an overheating issue as I cannot for the life of me think of any other reason why.
I have since returned this CPU to the supplier and will hopefully be entitled to a replacement - one of the corner pins was (very slightly) bent, which I was able to rectify easily, but also on the top half there was a scratch (although very small) on the PCB board, however I looked past this in the hopes it would not be an issue.
It is very possible that the minor damage was related to its failiure - but wondered, does this laptop even have the feature to power down if it overheats, and if it did overheat, would a black screen on boot up be the result of an overheated CPU?
I have installed plenty of CPU's previously, and applied around a grain of rice size of thermal paste spread across the chip accordingly.
any thoughts would be appreciated,
I am hopefully going to get a replacement of the T8300 soon and will try it again then, but dont want a repeat fail -
Sorry to hear about your cpu problems, I would run a mile from a cpu showing any sign of physical damage.
Re: overheating, you can stress test you cpu using software like OCCT (available here http://www.ocbase.com/). It monitors temperatures and cuts the test in the event of overheating. The Intel cpus have extremely good thermal management built in as well, they automatically slow down (downclock) to protect themselves in the event of overheating. Occt will stop a test before it gets to that point. I appreciate if the cpu isn't booting you'll not need OCCT.
Finally, on SSDs, rather than your thread being hijacked by a discussion on the merits of various ssds, here is a good resource you can use, The SSD Review. The latest generation of SSDs are overkill for a 5315, the previous generation, like the ones referred to before, will make the it seem incredibly fast and they are being nicely discounted now. -
Hey guys,
So I opted for the crucial M4 in the end, and cant wait to give it a try - wasnt going to do that at first due to budget constraints, but selling the spare harddrive on ebay will make that possible
its a shame it wont take the extra gig to bring it to 4gb of RAM, i had read conflicting stories about whether or not it works... so unless theres ANYTHING else that I can do to make it work, ill have to stick with the 3GB i guess (Bios is version 1.43 btw)
with regards to that OCCT software - I have tried that out and it looks brilliant, really handy peice of software, and will defo give that a try - I wonder though has anyone actually had any heating issues with the T8300 cos i have not found anyone that has - I am 90% sure that the minor damage I saw on the chip was to blame..
HOWEVER... answer me this... isnt it odd that the first boot ups of windows xp, worked perfectly fine after I installed the T8300, rebooted 2 or 3 times I believe and no issues.
Curiously it was only when I put my windows 7 ultimate CD in and rebooted to begin installing that, that it then didnt go past POST - perhaps the cd drive going pushed it one step too far?! it seems a weird coincidence doesnt it?? lol
I dont actually think me trying to have windows 7 had anything to do with it.. its just weird that it happened right after I was about to begin with that...
Anyway, what do you guys think? have you heard of a cpu working fine a couple of times then dieing - would a minor scratch cause this??
Got a replacement on the way thankfully, not to mention the highly anticipated SSD - so will be continueing with the overhall next week -

Hello all, I might be a bit late on this thread but I have been reading it for a long time. Some very good stuff here.
Just reading this thread has givin me lots of ideas to upgrade my 5315.I started off with a celron 540, 80Gb hard drive, 1gig RAM (the usual) I have upgraded my 5315 to :
Core 2 Duo T7300 2Ghz
160gb Seagate Momentus 7200rpm
2gig RAM
1.45 bios
Windows 7
This Laptop now runs great, but I was wondering about taking it further apart from SSD, how much more performance can I squeeze out of it? an will it be worth it.I cant see there being any considerable performance boosts or am I missing something?
I bought this laptop for £50 and only spent around £40 on upgrades, so I think Ive done well.
I was quite surprised at how much you can upgrade the 5315 (single to core 2 duo was amazing) having only had desktops before. Are there any more gems like this I would really like to start a new project, preferably an acer, one with lots of upgrade ability.
Thanks to all who have posted here, this has been very rewarding indeed -
Congrats, you've done well with that 5315, now I wouldn't upgrade that any further, instead look for something like Aspire 3680 or 3690 and start all over again. Good luck.

hello all,
First off bought this laptop years ago for my daughter from T.D. for Christmas,/school when she moved back in. before last Christmas, it seemed to have died or close to it! Anyway got her a new one, after further checking it out was the fan, clogged and hard drive was on the way out. cloned the hard drive to a 320GB/7200rpm hit. I had 2gb ram in it but seeing how I was going to keep it lol, I did the 3GB UPGRADE! Yes it works! After reading the forum and CPU/intel guide I found a core 2 duo T7700 (2.4 ghz) (download the latest firmware from acre 1.45) I am still running vista 32bit. for the comparison between how it was and now. using Nova Bench as a comparison, original tested at 235, after upgrades the score is 340! for windows experance, own testing the system was proc. 4.3, memory 4.5, graphics 3.1, gaming grap. 3.1, Hard drive 5.3. New scores, processor 5.3, memory 4.8, graphics 3.5, gaming graphics 3.2, hard drive 5.9. Last test using Cinibench original score was .52 after the upgrades score jumped to 1.21! now for the final was ok system for most but now the system rocks! this is not my main laptop, (MacBook pro i7 2.4ghz) but there are things that I must do on a pc! used to use my wife toshiba, for accessing works system. No need. I would say this system far rocks better then most people I know with pc's and now have had several offers to buy it! -
Hey, I want to max out the power of my 5315 but I have a problem, one of the heatsink screws is stuck and although I did manage to squeeze a T5450 in, I'm afraid if I do it again, I'll end up damaging something, what can I do?
-
The Windows XP downgrade link is broken
-
Do not push your luck!

I have a question for all of you who have upgraded to windows 7 on the 5315's. What I have read is that they have problems with the fans not working right for the cooling? with the updates to windows 7 did that take care of the issue or not or are you all using other software to control the fan for the heat? I am thinking about upgrade the 5315 from vista 32bit Wouldn't of minded going to vista 64bit but to find it anymore is a joke. to window 7 64bit? but if the fan issue that is controlled by the acer software was fixed or not? before I lay out any cash! LOL for a book I use maybe once or twice a week! But the speed bump to 64bit would cut my time on the couple of projects down to maybe 60% of the time by others who do the same work! on newer 64 bit systems. with duel cores. (for comparisons theirs systems have slower processors also)
-
-
I have heard that the motherboard from the 5315 can be swapped with a motherboard from a 5720g. Does anyone else know if this is true? If thats the case, then I can swap boards and put in an MXM card correct? That would be sweet!
-
-
I'm like a child, first day of school on this lol, just tell me what I can put in.
Can I put this CPU in? Intel SLAYQ Core 2 Duo Mobile T8300 Laptop CPU 2.4GHz 800MHz 3MB Socket P This is about $30 on ebay and while I don't NEED to upgrade it's cheap enough to see if i can make this laptop fly!
Got this acer that was thought dead after fixing a friends computer. Found a youtube video that suggested clogged fans were making it shut down, sure enough hugely clogged. Then determined hard drive was bad, replaced and sure enough nice laptop now, even added 1gig so using 2 now.
Never did a cpu laptop ugrade before, only desktop and I've fried some before so careful to not just jump till I know where I'm landing. Still reading and digesting, hardest part is figuring out which processor's work and which one I want, still don't know based on my specs. If any of you educated on the matter would care to chime in your learned knowledge it would be most awesomely appreciated. Does intel make software that will just tell me what CPU's I can put into this sytem?

Yes, read the first post and you find in the second line it says T8300 confirmed by ric ayr.
-
In the above post, is mine a socket M, P? That T8300 is listed as a Socket P, or does it even matter? -
Your current CPU Celeron 540 m is a socket P processor and yes it does matter, you can not replace a socket P CPU with a socket M CPU.

Thanks everyone! Only did t7300 just in case I screwed up, it's juts $10...t5450 is only $5 lol, damn cheap but the feeling you get when you upgrade your laptops CPU...priceless. Went smoothly and even surprised me that it worked. Thanks for all the help! With this new found confidence, next upgrade will be the t9500 woohoo.

This is old for you guys but I'm still amazed that I was able to upgrade a LAPTOP CPU. That picture on the front page helped but really needed a description that the CPU was underneath the copper pipe, I was expecting it to be under the fan like desktops. I added the info for the location in this picture.

yesterday my 5315 refused to display some image, reboot didnt help either.
i connected a externel display, cus baybe the inverter is broken, but no. no image.
wlan led doesnt blink, i think the IGP died. -
@belzabub: The small, missing connector is a PCIE Mini Card slot. It is populated only on the Aspire 5720/7720.
The larger slot you labeled as "mini-PCI" is the MXM slot, which holds the GPU on x720 G models. (The chip you marked "GPU" is really the northbridge - though in your machine, it also serves as a GPU.) -

hi i read this tread and i was inspired to upgrade my bothers notebook 5315 orginaly was Celeron 530 and 2x512ram 533mhz
i think to replace with what do don`t spend a lot of cash so i buy for 5 chipest one T7100 and it works 100% fine
i try two kits of ram 2x1gb 667mhz and 2x1gb 800mhz but Acer 5315 only works max with 667mhz DDR2 ram
i don`t buy 2x2gb coz i read that can be problems with 4gb
right now ther is a 1,43bios is there a reason to upgrade to 1,45 ?
all futures of new CPU are enabled, its so much faster than Celeron 530 and coolder ale the cooler is forking so quiet now !
my chipset GL960 after swamp is stil 960 don`t change to 965
sory for my eng. but is not my native ;-/
best regreads
spectrum32 i think T7250 will work fine too -

SEKU, looks like you did a pretty good job upgrading the 5315.
you can upgrade to 3 gigs of memory.... but you must put the 1 gig piece of memory in the slot closest to the motherboard and the 2 gig piece goes in the slot on top (assuming that you have the laptop upside down). that would be the slot closest to the bottom access cover.
the T7250 is compatible with the 5315..... but check the first post of this thread, there are 2 different CPU GUIDES linked from the first post. i also made a comprehensive list of all the things you can easily do to these laptops and there are 2 CPU guides, just remember you need a 478 pin P cpu the T7250 is compatible, but a T7300 has 4mb of level 2 cache memory which is twice the ammout in the T7250 so i would get a T7300 instead unless the price difference is huge or you happen to have a T7250 just lying around.... i'm still looking for a CHEAP T9500:wink:. -
Really pleased to see you back and in action bigO :hi2:

Hi first post here!
I have a stock acer aspire 5315 with intel processor and stock 1gb ram.
I have installed win xp on it that's the only mod.
No i get many inspirations from here =) i want to tune it up for cheap to see if i can make it to fly
I don't want to change the hdd so i only want to change the processor and the ram memory to 2gb
Is the t7300 the right way to go?? for cheap or should i go with some other mods who is better for same price.. -
the_real_bigozone Notebook Enthusiast
the t5750 i currently run is enough for me since my gaming is limited to angery birds... but the T7300 is great sich it has 3mb of L2 cache. but a T9500 would be SWEET
as for the ram you will need 1 x 1 gig of PC5300 and 1X 2gig of pc5300 place the one gig in the slot closest to the MB and the 2 gig in the remaining slot.
later,
bigO -
I would not recommend the T7300 anymore (or any T5xxx or T7xxx-series CPU for that matter), choose a T6/8/9xxx-series CPU instead. These are 45nm CPUs (vs. 65nm for the T7300), so they will run much cooler and give you much more battery life.
(Note: The T9400 won't work with your machine! T9300 and T9500 are good, however.)
