ohh yeah I noticed that.. on 1.42 every time you turn on from hibernate the wireless driver just gone so it forced me to restart after hibernation...
-
that seems to be what 1.43 fixed then... i don't use hibernate or sleep so i never notice those kinds of problems
so you should give 1.43 a try -
i never have that much trouble.
but make sure if you have a WiFi connection, that Wake up on lan is switched off in the Bios. as it has been known for windows updates to wake a laptop. ive seen it, well freaky.
Phil -
i've never seen that... but that sounds cool to me... does it shut the laptop back off after downloading and installing the updates?? that alone could make me turn on that feature if it shuts it's self back off!!!
-
really?.... ive used vista for nearly half a year now and I haven't seen my laptop turn by itself since I bought this laptop..... well, the computer does restart by itself after some updates.... but turnin on just to look for updates... never happened to me.... it's cool though
-
i think i may still have a copy of the event log.
i thought i had ghost. -
is there any of you guys know how to double boot vista and xp
-
-
-
damn I knew all those website before and nothing works after days of tryin to figure out what the hell was the problem....
im sure u guys know what's the problem.....xp just don't read the hard drive..... -
got some other stuff going on right now... give me 5 mins -
make an XP DISK following the directions on this site,,,,
then install XP using the disk you created using Nlite to embed the SATA driver...
when booting in XP (which has no SATA drivers) it will pop up a message saying it can't find your HDD -
First of all would like to congratulate bigozone for the work put into this thread!
I'm a bit limited on time so I would like (and sorry for not going tru all the 42 pages) to ask the following about the 5315:
- Have the cold boot issues been solved?
- What are the cons of the laptop as a whole?
- Is the screen any good (black-to-white, response times, reflections wise,etc..)
Seriously considering getting one of these (and most likely load XP on it) as they seem to represent excellent value for money.
Cheers -
what are the cons. i found only one oops sorry, the wife found it. she doesn't like the design of touch pad, she would rather have the old style.
apart from that. no other laptop can be upgrade to such a higher level.its great. got to be one of the best bang for your buck laptops out there.
but is it what you want/need ?
just my couple of cents worth
Phil -
The idea is mobility without always thinking about the $1000 laptop on my backpack -
and if you get some spare cash, you can upgrade the CPU cheap and you get better spec for less money -
What about the cold-boot issues?
Also with the stock cpu, how long does the battery last? -
stock cpu battery life is 1hr45 new.upgrade cpu and this goes up 30% and the laptop is cooler -
BigO has made sure he as worked every upgrade possible for this laptop (with guides) that you can/could do.
he's your man on this one, by a long way
Phil -
2. biggest CON of this laptop is no chance of playing newer VIDEO GAMES.. DVDs play fine especially with XP and 2 gigs of RAM
3. i believe the response time is advertised as 8milliseconds... black/white contrast is perfect... REFLECTION is my only complaint,, in VERY bright light you have to adjust screen angle to minimize interfearance!
but i like the screen MUCH BETTER than the older MATTE finish lcds -
i've noticed an extra hour of battery life due to the power saving fearutres of the core2duos
-
bigozone -what would you recommend (cpu wise and taking in consideration I dont need a ubber machine and the idea is a good price/performance relationship)?
If you got any good reliable source please PM with it (taking in consideration i'm in Europe).
Cheers
PS - What are the temps on the Celeron and can I expect quite operation = no ubber loud fans? -
i buy all my CPUs thru EBAY.... i always use the BUY IT NOW option...
try the US ebay site.... and pay w/ paypal (buy from a seller with a long history and a great feedback rating)... just friday i was searching ad saw T5450s going for $60us plus shipping... and many sellers will ship world wide when using the BUY IT NOW option...
you might check the BUY SELL TRADE forum here... post a thread looking to buy a T5250, T5450 or higher SOCKETP cpu... see if anyone here has one for sale.. alot of people here are upgrading to T8300's and selling thier old chips
i have bought 1 cpu and 2 digital cameras thru NBR with no problems
but as for EURO sources for CPUs,,, hoggie may be a better source of info.
but i'd not buy a retail CPU due to the HIGH COSTS,, and don't buy an ENGERRING SAMPLE CPU (they have usually been tortured) -
Hi all, just want to say great thread, very informative. I have at the moment a fairly stock 5315, only mod so far is 2gb ram. Have just ordered a T8100 from ebay, $160aud incl postage which isn't too bad. should be here late this week - mid next week. i will post up details of socket colour when I change it...
just thought I'd add, has anyone else had issues with the wireless card becoming unavailable after resuming from hibernation? I updated bios to ver 1.43 last night, then when trying to resume after hibernating and pressing the wireless button I get a message saying no wireless cards...went back to 1.42, same issue...now back at 1.34 and have no problems...., any ideas? -
what wifi card do you have ?
I had this problem with my laptop. it was a conflict between windows zero configuration and the Broadcom software i was using.
is windows zero configuration set to manual or automatic in services
but i only had this trouble when using hibernation -
the standard atheros one, is that how it's spelt...? it says the device is active and working, but won't show any networks, and when i press the button it says no device available or something similar
-
have you tried re-installing the drivers? -
no device available, it's enabled and working in system properties...no i haven't, but after a restart it works fine
-
when she's not looking
she has hers set to go into hibernation when you push the power button down.
and is still running vista basic with the bios ver 1.43.
will get back soon
Phil -
lol, ok then, i'll have a bit more of a play and see if i can figure anything out
hmmm strange....i just forced a hibernation then and now it's working properly...? in ver 1.43 now...i'll let it sleep and hibernate overnight and see how it goes
i'll post an update in the morning when i check it...hopefully all is ok now -
-
-
ok ive tried loads of set-ups with her wireless and found the only thing that upset or stopped the wireless coming out of hibernation was the settings for the home connection.
something about always connect to this network when available. in the vista networks page.
just do a scan for networks and choice your network and make it auto connect.
but im still playing lol -
Hello, what chipset have you got? You said GM965 but my Aspire 5315 say GL960...
Thanks
(sorry for my english) -
good info there angad..
i like the AVY! -
Thx......
-
Thanks for this help
-
it is strange...it is all fine now. this happened the other night, i updated to bios 1.43 from 1.34, then had this issue. so i thought i'd try 1.42, same problem. then went back to 1.34 it was fine again. went back to 1.43 again last night and just tried it this morning and it is now working fine...? don't know, but it's working, that's all that matters, thanks for your help guys

i didn't think they would work properly on vista...?
edit: just booted it up again (i am on my desktop atm) same problem. press the wireless button and I get a message no wireless device, go into device manager and it says this device is working properly...?
edit2: just rebooted it and now it is ok. basically what causes the issue is, i shut the lid from in windows, then the computer goes to sleep, then after about 90 mins on battery it goes into hibernation. when i turn it back on, windows resumes and then i get the problem, i know i should shut it own after using, but i wouldn't think i should have to do this every time, considering it works fine with other bios....? -
that driver i linked is a complete install pack,,,, works for XP 32 & 64 bit as well as VISTA 32 & 64 bit (and also contains the XP version of the ATHEROS WIFI MANAGER)........ which explains why the file is 10 MB.
but back to your issue... have you checked the POWER SAVING mode SETTINGS inside the DEVICE MANAGER under the ATHEROS WIFI ADAPTER it is listed in the ADVANCED TAB as POWER SAVE MODE... set it to OFF and all other POWER SAVE settings should change to " Legacy Power Save"
(these settings are from XP using recently posted driver, but i would expect the DEVICE MANAGER options to be the same for VISTA)
making those changes may keep the adapter from shutting down after the laptop hibernates... and to conserve battery usage.. just use the convient button to turn the WIFI on and off. -
i've just downloaded the newer driver, i guess i won't be able to tell if it has made any difference till 2moro...i have unticked the "turn off this device to save power" box, so i'll check that then too. it's strange, it says the device in enabled and working, but won't show any networks and says no wireless device when the button is pressed, surely if it was a driver issue then changing bios wouldn't affect it, would it...? then again, i guess this is vista we are talking about, it is temperamental at the best of times...
-
try adjusting the alarm/low battery warning to about 3%.
-
ok, i've set low battery at 3% and critical at 1%, does this seem ok to you?
-
im now trying wifi card manufacturer software to run her wifi connection
she's not happy with me playing about with her laptop lol -
5315s are available in the UK..

I paid £400 for two 5315's and my 7110 was also under £500 -
I finally managed to get some time to do a clean install of Vista with a retail T9300 cpu in place.
The OS loaded fine and all software services to use the power management features of the cpu are in place and running normally.
It looks good for using Txxxx cpus in 5315s, provided you do a clean install of the OS so that the cpu's features are correctly identified and configured.
I'll do some load testing when I get a chance to confirm the temperature and performance characteristics on a fully operational system (ie after all drivers and apps in situ).
