    you have the Aspire 5315???

if so just take the big pannel off the bottom and look under the HEATSINK,,

if you see a PINK/PURPLE socket you are fine... if it's grey you may have need for my HIGH TECH modification

refer to thumbnail at bottom of post 1,,, see the pink socket sticking out??

click on my NICK above the scorpion pic see how it shows send private messeage...

well when i click on yours that option is not there...

you need to click on the USER CP option at top left bar (almost at center of screen when you are at the top of this page)

click edit options on the left side of main window

down inside there is an option to allow members to send you PRIVATE MESSAGES

check that box and save setttings

well mine didn't come w/ DVD burner so i spent $50 on a refurb NEC 6550A w/ a 1 year warranty.... (love it by the way)

i can highly reccomend NEC/SONY/OPTIARC from my personal experiences
just incase you ever have to replace yours after the warranty is over (god forbid)

according to the acer eRecovery utility any BOOTABLE DVD is limited to 4GB

not sure if its a limit in thier burning routine,, or a limitation of making any DVD bootable,,

but i'd research before trying to burn any BOOTABLE DUAL LAYER DVDs

just thought i'd toss that in and shamelessly bump myown thread

did you install the sound driver FIRST,,, before chipset and ALL OTHER DRIVERS???? and before SP3??

that has been a very common issue solved by installing sound driver before all other drivers and before SP3

BOTH... and BOTH HAVE TO MATCH

if you own an aspire 5313 it has a SATA interface on the MB so the 2.5" HDD also needs to have a SATA type connector...

So you missed my question. Should have phrased it:
Will any SATA harddrive installed into a 5315, let you use the
    IDE mode ?

i believe the SATA to IDE conversion is a function that is implemented in the BIOS and any SATA drive should be able to use the IDE function,,, but it slows data transfer down slightly

    best not to use it,,,
