Hi, does anyone have an Aspire 5315 they can just do a little test on please? Would you be kind enough to unplug your keyboard and try to switch on your laptop?

did it boot? if not what happened?

I'm repairing one of the 5315's after someone has spilt an alcoholic beverage on it, i've had it in pieces and there doesn't seem to be any evidence of it seeping inside. the motherboard is clean and residue free, all the components have been checked and are all clean. so im assuming the keyboard maybe the problem.

The fan starts up for a few seconds, the power light comes on, one red light flashes at the top left of the keyboard, a light stays on at the bottom left corner - the light bulb (i assume this is the hard drive?). Then *poof* the fan stops, lights go off.

i'll try to get around to testing that tonight.... but IMO it should boot fine w/o a keyboard connected... it may pop up a POST error saying NO KEYBOARD, PRESS F1 TO CONTINUE...

you sound like you have a good idea of what you are doing.... so i'll not insult you by asking if you have tried using a USB KEYBOARD.

i assume you have removed the battery and AC,, then held the POWER BUTTON down for 30 seconds... then hooked the AC back up and tried to boot w/o the battery AFTER doing that MANUAL CMOS RESET?

I didnt want to remove the Cmos battery as it is soldered together and i currently do not have use of a soldering iron right now. i also do not have the AC unit, but i have tried to roll back the bios setting and using the jumper short. no luck though. thanks for the help. =)

You can see if there is a connector for the CMOS battery, and try removing that....
The keyboard might be fine, but try removing all the removable modules from the motherboard (LAN, WLAN, ODD, HDD, RAM - slot swaps) and see if it boots.

I guess the 'one red light' might be the indication for a hardware failure....not sure.

Its not the battery light, but i am waiting for the owner to bring the AC adapter.
Its a shame i don't have any spare parts to try out, it's looking like this is going to be scrapped! I wouldn't mind owning one of these myself, pretty upgradeable.

Yeah i thought it would be the wireless, still thought it was worth mentioning. I've ran into some strange error codes at times! I'm still waiting on this AC supply, Obviously they aren't in a rush for it to be repaired!

no love w/ the new power adapter??

does the GREEN POWER LED light up when you press the power button??
how about the GREEN/ORANGE BATTERY LED,, it should be orange when charging... green when fully charged battery is present

BTW, i'll test the keyboard thing in an hour... i have to answer all these ACER POSTS first

when i try to power up the green light is coming on, but not from the battery icon. just from the light bulb icon. when the power adapter is plugged in with the battery, i get an orange light, which turns to green after a while. switching on without a battery and just power adapter is the same as with the battery.

sounds like the motherboard has SOME life in it... it is charging the battery anyway.. as for the lack of HDD activity i have no clue why it won't boot... there is obviously some motherboard damage

yeah, well not long to go until these parts arrive. >>fingers crossed<< comes with an extra gb memory so saving myself a few bob there. the keyboard will come in handy so i dont get an annoying sticky sound each key press. Feeling pretty good about it all since they said i can have the laptop because they don't want to pay for parts. no guarantee they'l work though but i think its worth the cash just to see.

lol well i'm sure i'd certainly have rubber feet etc to spare. the plastic fascia and such. i'm only interested in keeping the mobo, memory, hdd and CPU.
