My aspire 5315 has recently stopped displaying the battery, volume, and network icons on the notification tray. There are many posts all over the internet on how to get them back, from just checking them in the notification area properties, to editing the registry if the choices are grayed out. Even though this works, every time i would reboot, the problem would reoccur on my laptop. I have yet to find a solution on the internet for this problem in vista other than that it is a bug. Microsoft just describes the registry edit. The problem apparently comes from services that time out during bootup, and the icons therefore never making it to the tray. I noticed that my laptop started booting much slower than normal.. I seem to have had a msn virus, although i have never used msn messenger, and my antivirus program has never detected them. After running impfix.exe (web page states that it removes all known msn viruses) my problem has been solved. My laptop boots MUCH faster. (google impfix.exe to locate this program.) I hope this helps anyone that may have the same problem as me.

    Hi BigO
thanks for the great help you have given me in the past. I managed to upgrade my processor, memory, and dvd burner due to your posts. This post is intended to help anyone that has had the icon problem. The program I mentioned above cured mine, so no more disappearing icons for me.

cool,, glad your problem is solved and it's good to see you posting here in hopes of helping others... that's what NBR is all about...

and i'm very glad to hear that you have upgraded your CPU, RAM, & DVD..
you'll have to excuse me for forgetting the details of your upgrades... but i see so many threads and PMs about upgrading, it's hard to keep track of my own system's specs...

so what are your current system specs?

possibly of course, but not certain of that. I do know it was solved after running the program that removes msn viruses. There are probably multiple reasons that the 'dissappearing icons' could occur.
