My 5315 is just over a year old, and its developed an odd problem.
I tried to charge it yesterday, but neither light came on, the light on the ac adapter comes on, but no power is going into the laptop itself, I have no idea what is going on, can anyone help me?

To troubleshoot this you really need to find another 5315 owner and swap bits around . . however

If the laptop will run on the AC adapters supply with the battery removed it is safe to assume the adapter is ok. If It won't run like this but will run on battery try another adapter. *

If the battery - although not charging - is able to run the laptop when used without AC power then at least some of the battery connections work.

Have you fully reset the bios (all power/batteries removed) hold power key on for 30 secs, and then reboot (for some reason booting with esc held down can help).

    * There are universal adapters but having fiddled with plugs and voltage settings if it still doesn't work you are not really confident where the problem is.
    * If you know an electronics enthusiast you can ask them to check for the DC voltage on the adapters output - is it as stated on the nameplate? (e.g. 19V) If not then it is faulty

The ac adapter doesn't power it at all, but it does work on my friend's acer, my thought is its just the ac jack needs replacing, has anybody used www.laptop-spares-online.co.uk They are the only place I can see that has what I need

Has anyone else had this problem, if so, what did you do?

Haven't tried either shop . . crooks won't get rich charging you £16 though :)

If you have a multimeter you could pull the laptop apart and check if the voltage fromthe adapter is getting to the motherboard before replacing the Jack and its cable that connects to the MB.

As I say for the money I wouldn't bother taking it apart without having the spare jack to hand . and then you can test it by substituting it and don't need a meter.
