Get and run 3Mark 2001 ,check CPU stability at half speed.

Generic software applications does not cause Blue screens .

99% are CPU or memory or Bios issue .

    acer's LAUNCH MANAGER..

the empowering tech software is totally different...
launch manager doeen't require the EMPOWERING FRAMEWORK inorder to run,, and should run on XP as well as vista

give me 10 minutes and if the vista version doesn't work i'll report back :D

i need to reinstall after trying a version written for a different model

as for the blue screens..... i'm betting it's your BIOS version
check your version # and let us know what version you have...

you can use PC WIZARD 2008 to check it or you could reboot and press F2

You can stress your CPU using Orthos.
You can check out RMClock and the Undervolting Guide, to undervolt your CPU.
Volume buttons normally work without the Acer Software, but there will be no indication on the screen. So install Launch Manager.

yes volume buttons work w/ NO software,, but w/o launch manager you don't get an ON SCREEN DISPLAY (or be able to program the Green E button to launch apps or go to webpages)

i use RMCLOCK to undervolt my power supplied o my CPU and if i used anything to manage my power usage it would also be RMClock,,, but i have all power management disabled in windows.... i don't use CPU throttling.... i just set RMclock to "PERFORMANCE ON DEMAND" and undervolted to the LOWEST stable setting... just use windows POWER OPTIONS along with RMCLOCK

3dmark2001 is a graphics testing program that gives you results for your system so you can compare it to other systems.

Yes, you can assign RMClock to startup with windows, and also assign the specific CPU and OS power management scheme. You would need to check out RMClock to understand how it actually works.

a 2 gig stick of ram in the slot closest to the motherboard will cause blue screens... this laptop currently is limited by the BIOS to 3 gigs.

is XP fully installed? what changes were last made before the bluescreens started?

Have 2,1 gig sticks of ram,t5550 processor.Have installed nlited xp,updated to sp3,have done 2 clean installs on this laptop, found after installing all updates the (new) wifi driver from windows update was causing problems w/ items disappearing from the notification area,so last time updated, installed newest chipset driver from intel..blue screen has only happened when acer power management is set to the lowest cpu usage, screen set to 0 backlight, music being played and on graphic intensive web site..Cannot duplicate though.have seen when booting unit up the message (windows has recovered from a serious error)??Also poss started after upgrading bois from version 1.34 to 1.43?
