Hey, Im replacing my ailing 3680 with a 5315-2698 that I just bought... have a few questions:

How much memory is the 5315 capable of? Could I buy a 2GB Pc-5300 stick and install it next to the 1GB pre-existing stick?

What processor can I put in? On my 3680, I yanked the Celeron and installed a Core 2 Duo T5300. What are the possible processor designations supported on the 5315?

Maximum 3GB of RAM in special slot/stick combo but it's not official so I'm not sure if it works in all 5315s.

Check BigO's thread(from the sticky) but you can go up to T9300 or even T9500 if I'm not mistaken. You might have thermal issues though. Personally I'd go for T8300.
All socket P Merom with max FSB 800MHz should be supported actually.

BIOS update is recommended and not only for CPU support, old versions have known issues like "cold boot", fan problems etc. I'd flash to v1.43 it's stable.

    Thanks, Ive been reading it....

I dont know what color my CPU socket is yet... Its doing windows updates and when its done I will check.

So what if I have a grey socket vs. a pink socket? (Man does that sound dirty!) hahaha.

EDIT: Just checked and the CPU socket is in fact pink.

    So what does this mean?

    Thanks for that!!

So far I have collected from the thread that these processors will work:

    T5450 - 1.66ghz
    T5550 - 1.83ghz
    T7100 - 1.8ghz
    T8100 - 2.1ghz
    T8300 - 2.4ghz
    T9300 - 2.5ghz
    T9500 - 2.6ghz

I can use any of these above listed processors without any modification, other than the obligatory BIOS update?

I dont want to drop a whole buncha coin for a T9500 and then get it, and it no workie.

Well if you expect me to say "Yes they will work 100%, if it doesn't work I'll compensate it for ya!!" then you're wrong. The CPUs from the list should work and yes, no modding needed just BIOS update might be needed. But I can't guarantee you anything.
Again, the guy who upgraded to T9300 and T9500(I think it was Quality977) had some issues with it, BSODs and heat but I think he solved the problem with reinstalling Vista. There is no guarantee that it will work out that well with you though.

Anybody else with opinions out there?

When I was active in the early 3680 upgrade thread, the T5200/T5300 were reported with great success. Im now looking to go with the T8300. The price is a lot nicer than the T9500 for starters, and the speed isnt that much different (2.4g vs. 2.66g).

Im wondering if there is a processor w/the 5315's that have that kind of reputation?

Just to add to the list of CPU's, the T7500 will work in the 5315, no problems, did it myself, after updating the bios, worked flawlessly.

Also, the T7300 and T7700 should work aswell.

Most of the upgrades were made with T5xxx series CPUs if I recall correctly.

I'd go for either T7500, T8100 or T8300. If the difference between T7500 and T8300 is big(price-wise) I'd go for T7500 unless, of course, you insist on that little bit of increased performance and a battery life that T8300 would give you.
T8300 is confirmed to be working by a NBR member, unfortunately it seems that he informed BigO in privately because there isn't a "public confirmation" about it. But I trust BigO so if he put in his thread the info that T8300 is confirmed to be working then it's indeed confirmed.

    Thanks folks

I'd like to go with the T8300. Im assuming that a BIOS flash would be necessary.... And its confirmed to work but not in public? Im going to have to look into this one.

    Here is the confirmation:
But ric ayr has only two posts in NBR and no mention about T8300 in them:
As I said BIOS update is all you might need. I say might because I'm not sure with which version starts the support for C2D. However if you remember I said tha updating the BIOS is strongly recommended as older version have known issues. So even it you don't need to update because of the CPU I'd update it anyway.
