Acer wants me to call their fee based phone line for these simple questions. I figured I would check here first
1. Where is the memory physically located at on this model? There is no memory panel on the back, and before I start poking around figured I would ask. Is it accessible from back by removing the backplate or is it under keypad?
2. It comes with 2gb out of the box. I would like to go to at least 4gb. Is the 2 gb it comes with in a single stick or two 1 gb sticks.? (I.e. will I have to buy two 2gb sticks or just one 2gb stick)
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick response but mine doesn't have a backplate like this. It is solid completely with no individual removable parts
However, if the internal layout is the same ram should be in same place I suppose. I will just have to remove the entire backplate from the laptop.
Thanks again -
Sorry- my bad- an image I provided is for a 15" Aspire that looks exactly like yours form the top. Apparently it's not exactly the same chassis even though it looks like it.
I was unable to find a service manual for your notebook so I used one for a seemingly identical unit. -
Np.
The bad thing is there are lik 500 screws on the back of this thing, and no telling which should be used for removing the plate vs something else
Hmm. Anyone else have some thoughts? -
Go Big Revbungie - 8 GB is cheap at Crucial
Computer memory upgrades for Acer Aspire 5349 Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com
If you have a 64 bit system like mine that' how high you can go - I ordered the 8 gig kit and it's on the way - Trouble is when it gets here I'm like you - I don't know where to start disassembly - Kinda uncool of Acer to want $ just to tell me where it's located -
Did you guys figure this out? I just got the laptop for my wife for x-mas, and ordered a ram upgrade.

You could not be more wrong about the design of this GREAT 5349 series of Acers. I have bought two specifically because of how they are designed. Once you remove the screens and know how to start in one corner and slightly lift and rotate, you have access to EVERY component not just memory. I have ordered and upgraded my 5439 B800 celeron to an Intel quad-core i7 in about 5 min. I got the chip on ebay and taking the fan and heatsink off is child's play. On top of that, I have had to repair 5 laptops with the DC jack becoming dislodged from the motherboard or breaking because it is hard soldered into the motherboard. Trust me, you have to use diagonal cutters desoldering tools, and you typically have to take the keyboard out, remove five plates then remove various inside parts to get to the motherboard and then remove the motherboard. Not with this slick devil. It is on a separate mount and it is attached with a wire and a plug, so it is about 1 min to replace as well. Sorry for the evangelizing, but I guess it is all about how deeply you plan on working with your laptop. I agree changing the memory took an extra 2 min because I did not have an extra hatch with one screw access, but man after all the modding and understanding that you have access to EVERYTHING, it is well worth it. You can even plug a bluetooth module in in 2 min or upgrade your wireless pci half card in 2 min when 802.11ac clients are available. I plan on plugging in the bluetooth module soon as soon as I identify the right one on ebay.
