I was hoping to get an Aspire 5520 for my sister. She does basic web surfing, researching and types up homework and watch some movies. I was hoping to specifically get this one from new egg. Is the build quality good? I know my Acer Aspire 5000 was crappy, and had a lot of keyboard flex. How is the screen? Is the backlight bright or dim?

i'd go with this one,, i'm partial to Intel CPUs and you can even upgrade that cpu easily.... as long as she's not into gaming the intel X3100 should be more than enough for watching movies and such.... i play games on my X3100 but i have to lower video settings

unless you can afford the 5920.. walmart has a decent price on it..
even the 5315 would work.... and drop in a $60 T5450 Cpu upgrade to replace the celeron and she should be fine...

just a few options for you...

up until last week the 5315 was $399 w/ a celeron.... they increased price maybe they put a better processor in it now,,, that could explain the cost increase,,,, but if buying avoid Celeron Cpus unless you can get the laptop for less than $400 us
