Hello, I hope someone can help.
So I have an Acer Aspire 5520 that has a non-working display.
An external monitor works fine and Windows shows that there is no display connected except the external display, so for whatever reason the LCD is not powering up.
The LCD started working soon after I hooked up an external monitor and I thought the problem was resolved. 2 days later the same issue popped up. This time I only got the LCD working after dismantling the notebook, unplugging the LCD cable and plugging it back in. Again, it worked for about 2 days and now there's no display on the Aspire's LCD.
I didn't see any cracks or other faults with the LCD cable but I'm thinking (hoping!) that's the issue and I guess I'll order a new cable and try that and see how it goes.
I wanted to ask first tho, has anyone here had any experience with this sort of problem? Could it be the LCD itself?
Thanks for any advice!

When you start up, is there a faint image thats not lit up? Like its there but no backlight? Or is it totally nothing?

swap memory
els vga if that dont help lcd
If its inverter you can test this with your lcd switch(unles its realy dead ) ,,, if you have a magnetic switch use a magnetic to find the spot on your lcd bezzel first if you have the spot its the same on your upper cover -
Nah, nothin on the screen at all, I checked for that - screen's completely black. And when I get into windows (using an external monitor) it doesn't even detect the LCD display in device manager or display properties, like it's just not even there. I ordered a cheap video cable, hopefully that fixes the problem, I don't want to buy a new screen!

Well an update. Unfortunately the new LCD cable didn't fix the problem. Before I go ahead and order a new screen for this thing, what are the odds that it's the motherboard (integrated graphics) ?
The screen doesn't power up at all - As I was saying, in windows (on an external monitor) it doesn't even detect the LCD - Has anyone dealt with a completely dead LCD on a laptop before? Is this how it behaves or am I dealing with a lost cause here?
Thanks -
I was just wondering if you ever got your display working. My 5520 has identical problem. Dead display but works ok on external monitor through vga port. Display not even detected in device manager. Any ideas?

Nope, never got it fixed. What I ended up doing was installing a 7" touchscreen vga monitor in the dash of my car, removed the screen from the laptop, and shoved it under the seat of my car, now I have mobile computing...
I found that there are companies on ebay and around the net that claim they'll reflow the solder on the motherboard and that'll fix the problem for anywhere from $50-$100 but it wasn't worth the effort to me.
Just recently I had the same issue with an HP laptop with integrated GeForce video and I was feeling adventurous with a heatgun one day and it actually worked, got the part of the board around the video chip all heated up, let it cool down and voila! It worked - pretty much the same procedure people use to fix their xbox's with the red ring of death.
