When typing on the keyboard, the cursor suddenly goes back to another part of the text, seemingly randomly. It happens a lot! Anyone had this happen? Any idea how to get it to stop doing this?

These seem to be pretty bad for that. I think someone said there was a driver update maybe that fixes this issue? Not sure if I'm exactly right on that. I have a 5520 and I use an external mouse, so I keep the touchpad disabled. That keeps it from happening. If you use an external mouse and want to disable the touchpad, just press Fn + F7.

Try updating the drivers or disabling the touchpad, at least the touch-clicks, via the control panel (system tray icon).
I don't know which one worked for me because I updated and disabled touch too.

I have the 5315-2142. I had the same problem. All I had to do was disable the touchpad during typing. This will allow you still use the touchpad yet when you are typing the cursor won't jump all over the place. You can also set the delay for amount of time after typing the touchpad is disabled.

jcoretti,, is that using the synaptics driver or the native driver??

on my 5315 using the windows xp native driver my cursor jumps like a cow going over the moon... even w/ the "disable cursor durring typing option"

but since i don't have a delay option i assume you are using some other driver,, what version is the driver and where did ya grab it??

    thanks,
    bigozone

    Hello,

I have an Aspire 5520-5912, I have done a lot of things to try to fix this touchpad issue, finally, after contacting Acer Support, they suggest me to take out the battery and connecting the laptop directly and see what happened.

It works perfectly, the problem is the battery, I have warranty so they will send me another battery.

Check this, take out the battery and connect the laptop without it, then use it, and the touchpad will work great.

Changing the configuration of the touchpad may help, but the problem will happen still, I suggest you buy another battery. The problem is in the hardware not the software.

glad you found an answer to your issue...

i just assumed it was a driver thing since that has been a very common complaint w/ my model when using the preinstalled driver..

but hey.. you got it figured out,, and you get a new battery too!!
    congrats

    Hello

I posted that it was the battery problem, but still with the new battery the problem did not go. Well, touchpad works better but still keeps jumping sometimes.

Tried the old driver, but since I have Vista it does not work, only for XP.

My final solution and try it because it really fixes a lot of things is uninstalling the ALPS driver and installing the Synaptics driver, I think Synaptics only works on Vista.

This fixes the random clicks and jumping, but still feels kind of weird when moving it. The downside is that you cannot change any property of the touchpad, you can only change the speed which affects the external mouse too. You still have tapping.

For me, works much better than we the ALPS driver. If this is not a hardware issue, which I thought it was, but seeing the behaviour with different drivers makes me think is not, then Acer should release a new driver that fixes completley the touchpad.

    Hope it helps!
