I just bought an Aspire 5535 and it came with Vista Home Premium. I want to get rid of vista and load XP on it. Problem is I keep getting a hardware error when trying to load XP. I went as far as pulling the HD out of the notebook and hooking it up to my desk top to reformat it, and try it in the notebook at that point, same problem, blue screen f death when it tries to start the windows installation. I then take it out of the note book again and partially load XP up on it from my desktop till the first reboot prompt, re-install it back into the notebook, only to still have the same problem. Is there some hardware issue that needs to be over come here or am I missing something obvious? Or even still, will XP even work on this notebook?
    Thanks In Advance!!

You probably have to switch from AHCI to IDE mode(from the BIOS) or, if you don't want to or can't(some BIOSes doesn't have that switching option), you'll need to either slipstream the SATA driver into your XP CD or use an external device(usb floppy) to load the driver(pressing F6 when the XP drivers are loading).

Awesome info folks, just what I needed. Am loading XP as I type. Any resources available for drivers I may need? I can't thank you folks enough for the info provided. I wouldn't have though of that at all. I changed to IDE and up and running the install went. I can of course switch it back to AHCI once the load is done?

If you switch to AHCI this will cause a BSOD when XP try to load. You don't need AHCI mode for XP IMO.

No idea where to get XP drivers for your model, ACER doesn't provide them..

Hi, you can use some of the vista drivers, I know the webcam works, other than that it's down to the original equipment manufacturer; ie. realtek etc. I seem to remember putting one together not so long ago with XP and it worked fine but without any of the empowering stuff. I also tried to find a ATI Sata driver to enable AHCI but had no luck, so if you find any that work please let me know. Sorry, I have build so many these days I forget what model numbers they are ;-)

Thanks for the replies! I have that same link myself for the XP drivers, but thank-you all the same. Problem with that link is the site is directed to a limited download provider, and if you're not a member they limit your downloads. Unfortunately I don't think their day is the same length as the rest of ours. I started to download some files, and then I got a "daily limit reached" page, for two days now!?! I'll keep trying the site. XP is running fine on my system and haven't had any issues so far. Then again, I really only need the notebook for my ball league and other than that it serves no other purpose. So if it runs as it does for now, I'll be just as happy.
Thanks again folks for all the wonderful help you gave me!!!

Okay mates there is a way to get xp without making this bios thing (Switch to ide)
I looked into the offical vista AHCI Drivers and found out that this driver are not Textmode ones... but you need textmode driver when you want to integrate them with Nlite in your XP-Instalation cd...

so i open the .inf files and searched for a version number (3.100.1540.86) and then i started to search via google for this number and TADA!!! I found the AHCI Textmode driver...
    http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDo...troller-Driver-3100154086-Download-79146.html

Asus M4A79 Deluxe AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller Driver 3.100.1540.86

so what you have to do ist to add the drivers in following folders in your xp cd:

    xp/x86
    and
    xp/x64

    you must add them both!

(Dont forget you need nlite to add this drivers)

Im not 100% sure if this method working cause im right now installing my XP but everything look fine until now... when there is a problem i will post it here!

edit: okay everything worked out fine ^^ ;)
