Hello there guys I like you suggestion, I used 2 X 2GB memory but on my BIOS it recon only 3.3 GB, but few days ago my laptop going nuts, my geforce 7300 go is falling.

after contacted my local acer service, and they examine my laptop, they found my mem card had no problem on it, and the upgrade my BIOS to clean up the mess but, my mem reduce from 3.3 to only 3 gb.
it all at the bios mem check, not on OS.

they said this laptop didn't support 4 GB memory, that's wierd, on this notebook spec it said up to 4 GB. not 3 GB.

umm so where the going wrong? since I already run this laptop with 4 GB ram and recon it as 3.3 gb and had no problem with it, for a long times, but after had problem with the geforce faling down it can't recon 3.3 gb after they fix it with upgrade the bios. I think the problem goes to the motherboard, what your suggesting guys?.
if I goes to old bios the geforce is falling down, if I stay on this bios it's only recon 3 gb ram mem.
they can't explain why this happen.

and the bottom line, you guys with acer laptop and using 4 GB ram memory should check at the bios, how much it recon, it as 4 GB or 3.3 GB.
since IMHO the OS never will be using 4 GB if the bios didn't recon it.

but there is some glicth if you look at the system information it recon 4 GB but, on bios it recon as 3 GB and the task manager recon it as 3 GB

I like to profide you guys with bios screen shot, system information screen shot and task manager screen shoot, but since this forum didn't let it since this my first post, I will provide the screen shoot if you pm me or after I got 15 post on this forum.
btw can I sue acer since they gave me false information about this notebook spec?
no I just kidding, but if some lawyers want money they can used this issue though LOL
any one had same problem as me?

The notebook physically supports upto 4GB, but cannot address the whole 4GB. The notebook has a 945GM/PM chipset, which is a 32-bit chipset. To be precise, the chipset has a 32-bit memory controller, which kind of works quite similar to a 32-bit OS.

Hence the chipset will address upto 3.5GB. Memory drops down to 3.3GB after losing memory addresses to various devices, such as the BIOS roms, GPU, wifi, lan cards, etc. There was a memory mapping issue related to the NVIDIA GPU, which caused blank screens, etc and was fixed by limiting the max memory to 3GB in the BIOS. Hence, all the systems are limited to 3GB, regardless of whether they have an Intel GPU or a Nvidia GPU.

System Information will report the Physically Installed Memory as 4GB, but the total memory will be 3GB. The 4GB is recognised, but the chipset and BIOS, both limit it to 3GB.

Thank you for asnwering me Andy.
    sorry for late reply

IC , but if it's only physical support why it's not show it on bios? because it's chipet? and right now it's not recon 3.5 GB nor 3.3 but only 3 GB, before they upgrade it, it recon as 3.3 GB on BIOS.

I agree with you may be the problem on the NVDIA GPU maping, but for my current problems, I think the problem lay on the video card, since before it's can, but now it's didn't. it's weird right? before the problem happen everything run smooth with 3.3 GB but after a few month it had problem, if I runing ubuntu OS on it, it's said the NVDIA card is missing.

If they change my mother board to new one, could it's running smoothly like it's use to be? (recon it as 3.3 or 3.5 GB)

Actually the chipset supports upto 3.3GB....
But Acer added a memory limit in the BIOS, to limit the RAM addressed to 3GB.

You can update the BIOS to the latest version which is v1.3508....

Changing the mobo won't help in anyway, because the new mobo will also use the same BIOS. This is more of a BIOS issue, of which you can only notify Acer, and they may then work on a workaround for it.
