Hi. My friend owns an Aspire 5590 for about a year now. For the last half a year he experienced a problem where after about 30 minutes of gaming, the screen would fade to black and as far as I remember, the laptop turns off or perhaps he turns it off. Sorry, can't remember exactly.
Anyways, he already bought a cooling pad and we play games in an air-conditioned room. Also it is almost any game that causes that. Even Counter-strike (v1.6)! He already reformatted his HDD perhaps 3 or 4 times because of XP errors. I also tried opening the laptop to clean out the GPU fan, but it's difficult to open and reach.
Now my question is, is this problem common on that laptop, and is there any way to help? Could a BIOS update or graphics driver update help? Or is there another way? Or could it be hardware failure?
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks. I will encourage him to do that. So nobody else has that issue or has heard of it?

    Hi,
Actually I have that same problem with my laptop, interestingly also Acer Aspire 5590. Sometimes when the notebook goes into standby, the screen turns off.. and it never comes back on. I know the programmes are running because I can hear the pop up msgs and stuff..but the screen CANNOT be turned on, no matter what I do. And I have to restart it. So I set the settings so that it doesn't go into standby...and that solved that problem. Only now, it shuts off!!!

Thought it was a great deal when I bought it, but quickly regretting it.

    - Win XP Pro
    - Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 (1.83Ghz)
    - 120GB HDD
    - 1GB DDR2
    - bought 10 mnths ago.

Core 2 Duo? I thought it was a Core Duo... anyways, it's good to know that he's not the only one. I already tried cleaning out the laptop's fans, but they're pretty much clean now. We did try driver updates, but that kinda got ugly, and right now it can just play games. Guess I have to reformat for him sometime. Anways... bye.
