I purchased a used Aspire 5610-4537 It came with 1 GB installed DDR2

I wouldn't mind adding another 1 GB into it but I don't know how many slots are available, what the max I can add or if they installed 512 x 2 and all slots are used.

    Would anyone know?

    Thanks

Most laptops can support up to 4GB, but Windows 32-bit can't address that much memory so it's better off to just get 2GB or 3GB. CPU-Z will tell you how many RAM sticks you have.

Your notebook should be able to take 4GB.
However, if they have 2x512MB, you can't add more without taking them out, you only have 2 slots to install memory.

It has 2X512 in it. You can substitute 2X1 or 2X2. The most it will use is about 3 gig but 2X2 for 4 is very slightly faster than 1x2 & 1X1 for 3. 2 gig total though will give you a great boost.

I've got the same 2 x 512 configurment in my 5610....I too am looking to upgrade my RAM to 2GB or more ...does going from a PC2-4200 to a PC2-5300 cause any problems? Some places are saying I need a certain type of chip...what the heck does that mean? Here is a quote from the site: Your Acer TravelMate 5610 Series only supports modules made with a specific type of chip.

I'm not sure what the site is referring to. Maybe they mean that you can only use DDR2 SO-DIMM's instead of some other type of of memory module. Anyway, you won't have any problems going from PC2-4200 to PC2-5300.

Oh, so you can only have 2GB of PC2-4200 max. Nevermind about being able to take 4GB lol
