    Hi,

I bought an Aspire 5610Z which runs Vista HomePremium. The wireless network connection is a big headache.
I tried to connect it to network using a wireless router but it failed, however it worked fine using wired connection. This computer received excellent signal from the router and the router recognized this computer, but they just could not be associated. I have another three laptops, and none of them have such issue. Can anyone help?

    Thanks a lot,

Hi, I have the same notebook also. Dlink DI-524 router. More than half the time, I have to unplug the router to connect wirelessly. I can see, and connect to, other networks that are within my range, but my dlink must be rebooted. I found the issue to be the same whether using Windows wireless utility or Acer's. I am leaning toward the router that I have since I can easily connect to my neighbors(netgear and linksys). What type of router is everyone using?

I had the same issue! We are using D-Link (DI-524). I just bought my Aspire 5610Z with Windows Vista Home Premium. The wireless connection is very unsteable. I called Acer several times, and they all suggested that I ship the notebook back for repair. I don't wanna do that! It was all brand new and which make me frustrated! One last guy was rude but precise. After listening to my problems (I encountered all the situations which all of you are talking about here), he said it looks like your router or Vista's problem (configuration problems) but not the wireless card in the Acer.
Acer's notebooks have been great ever since 20 years ago. I still don't believe that I need to send this brand new notebook back for repair! I have a feeling that the notebook will still have the same problem after repairing. It could be Vista's problem!
My husband went online search and found many people have the same issues. My daughter's Acer 3004 (XP) has great wireless connection than mine!! I just can't trust Vista, and I miss XP! The only thing I am planning to do is to downgrade this Vista to XP and see what happen. Actually, I don't really like Vista much. I will see if the problem solve and post the result after downgrading.

    Hi, everyone!
It looks like my problem of Acer 5610Z bad wireless connection was solved. I tried to downgrade Vista to XP, but the computer was not function well under xp (OEM version). The PCIs were all un-identified! Since my husband formated c:, so we didn't even have that ACER eRecovery things! Without any other choices, my huband upgraded the malfunction XP to Vista by using the Vista Upgrade Disc which came with the Acer 5610Z. After that, my Acer 5610Z is only XP, but no Acer factory preloaded programs, no Norton Ghost, and no any anti-virus programs....
The wireless connected right after I typed in the password for our router! It's fast and steable!! Now, I am really a happy person!!
My husband and I were trying to figure out what caused the wireless problem. He guessed it could be the bugs in anti-virus programs, which treated the incoming signal as virus.
You probably don't need to re-install the OS, but try to un-install any anti-virus program. If that won't help, it could be the bugs in Acer ePower thing.
Good luck, everyone! Have a great weekend!

^Did you get the acer drivers and software from the website? When vista was still on my laptop i uninstalled all that extra acer stuff and my connection was still messed up. Yesterday i downgraded to XP and now my wireless works very well. But if you upgraded to Vista and your stuff still works i might try that after SP1 is released for vista.

When you downgraded your 5610z to XP, how did you get your wireless to work? I just finished installing windows xp professional and for some reason, I can't get the system to recognize the wireless card. I went to the acer website and downloaded the "AS5610_80211abg.zip" and installed all the programs, but it still says that no wireless card is found. Under my device manager, I see an "Ethernet Controller" that does not have an appropriate driver, and I know this is probably the wireless card, but I no driver will install for that piece of hardware.

any help on this issue would be great.

    To killasingh:
My 5610Z didn't had wireless connection. I guess it didn't have the drivers. I didn't found any driver from Acer.com. Therefore, we had no choice but upgraded XP to VISTA by using the VISTA upgrade disk which came with the 5610z. Once Vista installed, my 5610z is working great! I don't hate VISTA so much as before! :)
    I hope this will help!

with my aspire 5610-4648, everything was doing great since i bought it last april 2007, wireless is connected to my D-Link, DI 634M, and all of a sudden this sept 6, the connection is gone even the hardware is not being recognized now by the system, opened my laptop and removed and reinstalled the wireless uninstalled and installed back the software too, even bought a new wireless D-Link card, thinking that it will solve the problem, but until now to no avail and with all the things i read from this forum, i'm fustrated how Acer, which i thought a reliable brand, can't find a solution about this matter. one thing, their customer service is not even nice.
