I shut down my laptop without any obvious problems, everything worked as usual. This morning when it booted up there was no sound, and apparently there is 'no audio output device installed' when I mouse over the speaker icon in the tray.

There is a new icon in the tray called 'In-build conexant type 2 modem' that wasn't there before. Does anyone have any idea what the hell has happened or how to get my sound working again?
