Hey guys, I recently purchased a Aspire 5630 and everything worked fine. I made my eRecovery back up disk when i turned it on for the first time.

Afterwards, i installed my windows vista Ultimate upgrade. I noticed that alot of things stoped working, The norton antivirus didnt seem to work, so i deleted that.

Everytime after i turn on my computer, this window pops, up.. and it says that my Acer Empowering technology framework launcher is known to have compatability issues.

i went online and downloaded the vista compatable drivers off the website, and it told me to remove my older ones first. So i remved all the programs with the lowercase "e" infront of it. Then i installed this new Empowering technology one ,version 2.5.3003. Now everytime i install the add-ons, such as ePower Management, it says please install Acer Empowering technology framework first.

There also seems to be alot of trouble quite a few programs with vista. I was thinking that maybe it would be better off if i go back to XP.
But the problem is that i dont have the eRecovery program anymore.

Can anyone please give me some suggestions on what i should do?
Did i do something wrong earlier?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jamie

If your 5630 originally came with windows XP I would go back to that if I were you and forget vista until atleast service pack 1 comes out. Alot of users on here come on asking about how to get back to XP from vista therefore I think they are experiencing the same difficulties as you are.

You said that you made an eRecovery back up disk before you upgraded to vista, I am taking this to mean that you had XP to start with correct? If so then just pop that disk in to the laptop and restart it the recovery process will start and place XP back on to you computer.

Thanks for the reply, The problem is,.. When i insert the dvd, i hear a loading sound for a long time. But nothing happens, so i manually open the dvd drive from my computer. When i double click it, the disk drive pops open, and it says on the screen "please insert a cd/dvd"

I was thinking that it might be because i dont have the eRecovery software anymore.. but im not sure if thats the problem

    Thanks,
    Jamie

First go and download all of the Vista drivers from the Acer site....Not the applications.

They blow away all partitions and install Vista on a clean HD. Next load the network driver first and only. Once loaded go to windows update and let it run.

If there are any devices still needing a driver then install them from what you downloaded. For any Intel device, like the wireless NIC, chipset and video card I would go to the Intel site and get them...they are newer than the Acer site.

I would then use Vista for a while and really see if you need any of the Acer software. Most of the time the Windows software works just fine....like the power managment in XP in Vista is good enough. No need to install bloat if you dont need to.

Lastly dont listen the BS Vista hype, it runs great if you have 1gig or more of RAM. There is nothing that I cant find a driver for. Norton SUCKS....get AVG Free works great with Vista and MS defender.

Am i ment to format the laptop using vista?

Oh and.. so is the empowering technology just a waste of space?

Yes I would just kill the current partitions during the setup of Vista.

There is some small partition for the Acer recovery....but I blew mine away.

My 5610 that I just got came with Vista installed....and the 160gig HD had two partitions...disk split right in half. I wanted one big partition with Zero BS installed.

Have you tried booting off the recovery disks? I also installed Vista on a 5630 (5634) but didn't like it, eRecovery wouldn't work either, so went back to XP by booting off the recovery disks and restoring that way.

I dont know about factory default. I work in IT for a living so blowing away a notebook and doing a clean install is normal stuff for me.

Dont do it if your not sure. I have always done it, but I like clean installs with only the stuff I want on a PC.

Is your system set to boot of the DVD Drive? If it's booting off the HDD, it will bypass the DVD, try going into the BIOS and check it out (F2 or F10 on the startup screen).

Does not F12 or something like that bring up boot mananger? Saves you the hassle of setting it in the BIOS is you are not sure about that.
