    Hi all,

I've owned my Acer Aspire 5670 for just under a year now, and recently, several keys on the keyboard stopped working intermittently. In particular, the bottom row including the space bar and Fn keys stopped working. For awhile, the keys became usable again after the laptop had heated up (usually 5 or 10 minutes).

I had fixed the problem temporarily by opening the laptop and reseating the keyboard connector. Today, it died on me again, and several attempts at reseating the keyboard connector did nothing.

I'm wondering whether I should try to send it in to Acer for service (if I didn't blow my warranty by opening it up) or just buy a replacement keyboard off eBay. Also, is there any chance that it may be the keyboard controller at fault and not the keyboard? In that case, I'd have a much more significant problem.

    Thanks!

Lots of Acer's have had keyboard problems in the past. You need to flash your BIOS to the newest version, which is given by Acer as a small bootable file that you burn onto a blank optical disc.

I'm on the latest BIOS excluding the release for Vista. I'll give that a try, but I really think that this is a hardware problem. I think the connector has deformed from the heat, and as a result, the keyboard only works fully when the computer is heated up.

Where would I go about doing this? In their accessory parts order form at http://secure.tx.acer.com/AccessorySales/OrderForm.aspx I only see common accessories like AC adapter, battery and RAM. Thanks for the tip.
