    Hi,

I have been trying without any success to get my new HUAWEI E169G 3G USB Modem to work in my Acer Aspire 5672 WLMi notebook.

Various emails have been going back and forth with their technical support and the latest says my lack of a Ports tree in Device Manager is the reason as they state :- ' Please check your pc to see why there is no ports item in the devices manager ,your'd better reinstall the driver for ports ,the E169G needs the ports to communicate with your pc ,thanks'

I know the device works as I have tried it in a couple of other PCs (that have ports), and it was up and running in about 30 seconds.

I have tried adding the ports manually using Add New Hardware, and although I can get the tree to appear, the ports are not installed corrctly...show up with yellow marker.

Any ideas why I dont have Ports?...Do I need Ports?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Wilf.

Hi...Yes you are right, I think it should create the ports upon installation. For example, when I plug my Nokia phone in using Nokia PC Suite, it automatically creates the Ports tree in Device Manager and assigns a Com port.

The Ports thing must be a red herring then....Never had any other problems with pc and would be suprised if something wasnt set up correctly.

I will get back to them and see what else they can suggest.

    Cheers,

    W.
