Aspire 5672 - No Power, No Lights, Nothing...

I was watching a movie on my Aspire laptop yesterday when the application just exited and I watched as my laptop slowly went black. Once it was completely powered off, I tried to turn it back on but pressing the power button did nothing. I unplugged it (it was plugged in at the time) and resettled the battery, but still no power gets through. When plugged in to the adapter, the lights on the front do not light up, and strangely when I plug it into the adapter, the adapter led goes from a solid green to a flashing green (same with the battery out and adapter in). What does this mean? Is the power supply dead? Did something fry? Of course I'm fresh out of warranty and am in the process of buying an extended warranty. Has anyone else had this problem?

 

Have you tried letting it sit and cool down, it may have gotten overheated?

 

I let it cool down overnight. It's in the same state today.

 

can you test the power cable..it should read 19v DC.?

if thats ok and the battery is charged.sounds internal.

Too funny. Yes I tested the power cord and it's good. I guess something internal is fried. I saw somebody with this same problem on a different forum, but there was never a resolution posted. Hopefully I can get it figured out soon and post the verdict.

 

Is this notebook under warrenty or not?

if not i say rip it down see if you can figure out why it will not posted

right think i found one answer.the centre post in the power socket had come away from the board, was one.
and try starting the laptop with the battery removed.
if you have already tried this.then im lost

 

Hi - I realize this thread is pretty old - has anyone ever found a solution to this problem? My 5672 - 3 days out of warranty is doing the exact same thing. Won't power on with battery or not, and when plugged in the power supply flashes. It's a solid when it's disconnected. I figured I'd try the forums before opening it up and cleaning / reseating everything. Thanks!

 

My money is on the power jack itself being broken, either the center pin, or soldering at the motherboard, or cracking. Won't power on with the battery because the battery hasn't been getting charged since the jack broke. Obviously won't power on with the adapter because the jack is broken.

I've seen this on several Acer's and Compaq's. It's a fairly easy fix if you're comfortable tearing it down, removing mainboard, and de-soldering the broken connector and soldering in the new one. It's not really that tough if you can even remotely solder.

Do a search on eBay for "Acer Power Jack" and see how many items you get, my guess is in the several hundred range. There's a reason for that....

 

Thanks for the advice. It is much appreciated. Weird though - there was no "plug your computer in" warning in terms of battery dying, and my screen was at the same brightness up to its death indicating full power from AC was going on.

I just found out that the battery was under a recall as well - and now I'm starting to suspect if the battery had something to do with this. Two other guys other than me have had this issue here in the forums. Any thoughts?

I guess I'll wait for the battery to come in - however it won't come charged. I'll have to get it charged somehow, then plug it into the top. If it turns on, I'll solder in a replacement jack from ebay. Thanks very much.

 

Bought the power jack - unfortunately it did not work. I didn't solder it to the board though - just plugged it into the motherboard and connected the power supply to it. Still receiving the same flashing light. Looks like a possible motherboard upgrade, which means I might as well buy a new laptop. lol Anyone else seen this problem? Thanks in advance!
