I tried to connect my mobile phone ericsson W800i to the laptop via Bluetooth by using the bottom in the front but I got "NO DEVICE" message. I tried also send a picture from the mobile to the laptop using infrared but the mobile can't find any infrared device. I downloaded the driver from acer website but didn't help. Is there a way I can test BT and IR? Are all the 5672 equipped with BT and IR?
    Thanx
    Tom

You need to read up on your mobile phone, as well as how to connect it to your laptop.

On "most" phones that you purchase in the store they are locked out from several options and features by the company (and when I say most I mean like 90%) . They do this so make more money (verizion is nortorious for this) by using their own service and software etc. by which you pay them to use features that your phone came with. It is actually quite a sham!

I know my Motorola E815 cell has bluetooth on it, however they locked down the BT transfer in the sim of the card software. This means I can't send / recieve videos or pictures from my phone without hacking it (or using a data cable..... which they sell too).

I hate corporations, they suck. This is just one more way the consumer gets screwed by corporate greed.

I would suggest you find out 2 things

#1. Find out if your phone supports bluetooth transfer (not just bluetooth). Also make sure your bluetooth is enabled on your phone (by default it is not to save power).

#2. Find out how you are connecting to the laptop via your phone. Use the bluetooth software with the 5672 to find it. If you are running windows xp home (which I assume you are) the laptop is allready set to connect to bluetooth devices. Just make sure that bluetooth is enabled in e_power management.

This comes down to having both devices turned on, enabled, and having the ability to see each other. And even then it's not a fair game because most phones are a crapshoot when it comes to features being disabled.

There have even been public consumer boards suing these dumb@ss corperations over their "over locking" of features. - http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3504_7-6209465-1.html

I know that if I bought a Ford truck that I'd like to drive it where I want, do what I want with it, and if I want have a Chevy dealer fix a part on it. But when it comes to technology they lock it down so bad that you are FORCED to use their services and can not take your phone to another company because of it in most cases.

Way to go corperations.... way to F*ckin go.

sorry for the rant, hope you found a solution in that mess.

Actually, this is not "most" phones. It's just all phones sold by Verizon and Alltel.

Cingular and T-Mobile don't disable Bluetooth profiles. I enjoy easy, fast application, phone book/calendar, and file transfers over Bluetooh often between my laptop and my Nokia 6682 smartphone.

The W800, being a GSM phone, will work just fine once you get Bluetooth working.

Oh, and please don't try to use car analogies; they're awkward and rarely accurately describe a problem/situation.

My T-Mobile Razor V3 connects very well with my 5672. File transfers and Fax modem are both working.

thanks. I don't think is a question of mobile as mine is unlocked to all Europe and unbranded. I also tried the Razor but same story. It say "NO DEVICE". How did you manage to connect your razor with the 5672?
Maybe my Aspire 5672 doen't have BT and IR?

this is the best option in my opinion

sending files directly to the computer never works for me but this is what i usually do

    1. first activate bluetooth on the phone and make sure visibility is enabled
    2. then use your bluetooth software to find the phone
    3. configure file sharing between the phone and your 5672
    4. it might ask you for a passcode - just input any random 4 numbers and then enter the same number in the other device and you're ready to go

Is you Brluetooth on in the Computer? Make sure the Blue Light is on in the front right edge of the computer, if not then, slide the switch to the right to turn on Bluetooth.
