    Hi!

I have a small problem that I can't figure out.

When setting up an external monitor to the laptop, I want to be able to cycle through different configurations (single monitor (external) for gaming/dualie for everyday use).

But for some reason, the display toggle (Fn-F5) doesn't work. All the other function keys work just fine except for the display toggle. I did wipe out the machine and re-loaded, but I doubt that would affect the display toggleÂ…or would it?

Did anyone have any issues with the display toggle (fn + f5) keys after a clean re-load?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Or simply use the Display control panel or ATI Catalyst Control Center.

Thanks for the quick responses! But still not hacing any luck... :(

Vestige - I re-installed the proggies you mentioned but it dodn't work. ePresentation gave me hopes since it was easy to switch resolutions with a simple button click, but it was geared mostly for projectors...

k3l0 - It's what I've been doing lately, but it would be so much easier to just click the two function keys... :D

Do you know of any software that can switch the displays?

Are you doing a restore using the restore cds/partition?

I haven't done one since I made the restore CD. After the restore was made, I wiped out the drive and reloaded from scratch using a regular Win XP Pro load.

I downloaded the proggies from the link you provided and tried out the toggle display keys with no luck...

Try going into the BIOS and look for some monitor options, I know my Aspire has an option, you should go check.

If that doesn't work, try a restore using the Acer recovery cd/partition

D'oh! My 5672 unfortunately only gives me limited access in the BIOS...the only thing worthwhile that I can see is changing the boot order. Other than that, nothing about controlling the monitor...what Aspire model are you using?

I'm a bit hesitant to use the recovery disk at this point since I just re-loaded the unmerciful Steam app and all the CSS/HL2 trimmings...not to mention BF2 and it heavily weighted 400Mb patch.

The next time I'm staring down the barrel of a re-load, I'll definitely use the recovery disk to see if there is something in it that "activates" the fn-f5 toggle. :D

Has anyone re-loaded a 5672 using plain-o-vanilla XP Pro and still have the fn-f5 still function?

    Cheers!

Use a disk-imaging software to make a current image of your disk. If the restore to factory default settings does not solve your prpblem then restore back to the image you are using now.

You could avoid wasting this time and avoiding installing the Acer crap by setting up ATI CCC hotkeys to go to the specific display modes that you need.

Good idea vestige! I'll give it a go this weekend and see what happens, thanks for your help!

In the meantime, I'm going to play with the ATI CCC as k3l0 mentioned. Worse case scenario, I re-load this weekend... :D
