    Hi

I have an Aspire 5720 with Vista Home Premium, this was working fine until a week ago and it just started hanging or blue screening. The BSOD message mentioned IAStor.sys ?.

After trying to do the repair option it wouldn't work at all. I then did a recovery and complete re-install, this worked fine for a week until I turned on the Windows updates and it downloaded and installed loads of updates (48 I think !!).

Now it hangs after a few minutes, the hard disk light goes out but the wifi light is still flashing, I don't gte the BSOD anymore though. The only way to shut it down is to keep the power button pressed.

I tried updating the BIOS , I also checked the Acer site and installed a different Intel VGA driver but it has made no difference, I even tried the SP1 update.
I am assuming it is one of the windows updates but don't know which one would cause it, has anyone come across this before?, any suggestions which update may have caused it?

    Any help gratefully accepted

    many thanks

hmm, I tried the latest drivers from Intel, still no joy, also tried downloading all the latest drivers including wifi, vga etc from Acer support, still no joy.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what could cause the problem ? It all went pear shaped after the windows updates?

I suppose I could do the recovery and re-install fresh and do one update at a time to see which one caused the problem but with the mass of updates it could take forever.

To recap , the drive light goes out and it hangs after around 5 mins or so of use, but only once logged in, the mouse still moves but nothing works, if i just restart it and leave it not logged on it doesn't happen.

    thanks

    Chris

Try the older Intel Matrix Storage Drive, I think it still available to download from the Intel site. Also, scan the hdd for errors..
