Hi all,
Could someone please tell me whether the AC power adaptor itself should show an LED light on while it is plugged into the power (and not just when it is charging/connected to the laptop too)?
My Dad has come over here on holiday with an Acer Aspire 5720 Model ICL50. It had been working fine, however this morning we started getting the low battery warning sound, despite the power cable being plugged in. We have taken plugs in and out, taken the battery out etc, but the laptop will show no sign of receiving more power via the adaptor.
I figure its either one of two things - either the adaptor has died, or there is an issue with the power connector in the back of the laptop itself, perhaps it got knocked and damaged internally or something.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. The laptop is reaching end of life but if it is as "simple" as getting a replacement power adaptor then that may be the preferred option.
Many, many thanks for your input.

The AC adaptor should have the light on always as long as it's plugged into the wall socket (I guess you have checked that the wall socket is on and you have plugged other equipment there just to make sure). For you to ask about the light, it means it's not on so I think you need another adaptor or the fuse in the adaptor's power socket is off. If you want to check the fuse in your power socket, you can change it or use the power socket cable from another device to check if the light of the adaptor turns on. By any means don't plug the AC adaptor in your laptop unless you have the cable with the right fuse. I am saying that because using the wrong fuse can damage your adaptor (cheap) but also your laptop (expensive).
Otherwise as you said, it's probably the adaptor or the power connector on the laptop.
P.S. I am allergic to kiwi:laugh: -
Awesome, thanks for the quick response. Yes it is the case that there is no light at all appearing any more on the AC adaptor - but Dad couldnt remember whether it was a "during charging only" type of light or not.
We have checked against multiple power sockets, and tried my own power cable into the adaptor, without any joy. So sounds like it is the power adaptor itself that has gone - quite a relief compared to the expensive alternative of the laptop itself.
Now to find a place that I can order a replacement from (not sure how standardised across Acer models those power supplies are for an older model like this).
Cracked up about the kiwi comment mate... -
Not problem mate.
It should cost around £20 and the model is not that old. -
£8.99 off Ebay, gotta love it. Fingers crossed it does the trick. - if I don't reply again then that means I'm sorted...
